turning on hotspot stops mobile internet

I have an HTC Desire S on O2. The last time I used it - about 4 months ago - the hotspot worked fine but now every time I turn on the hot spot I get a message to say that there's no mobile network even though it was working fine before I turned the hotspot on. Any ideas?
