Help Two questions about my new phone

So, I ordered the Nexus 5 off of Google Play about 10 days ago, and I got it on the 2nd of July! Yay! :D

So, as I've been using it, I've realized that I have a couple questions about it.

1. Apparently, you can set something up in Google Play to block in-app purchases with a PIN. I haven't been able to find this option. The only similar one seems to be "Require password for purchases" that requires a password for all purchases through Google Play; however, it seems that in-app purchases would not be made through Google Play, but rather through the app, correct? I haven't tried making an in-app purchase yet, because I don't want to, and I don't want to accidentally charge my credit card for games (I'm thinking, however, of purchasing a few books), so maybe this is the right option.

2. How do I safely disconnect it from the computer? When I connect it, it comes up not as a "Device with Removable Storage", but as a "Portable Device" with its own internal storage. It seems fine if I uncheck all of the options in the little thing in the notification bar that allows me to either connect it as a media device or a camera, but I'm just wondering if there's a better way.

Thanks! :)

  1. For app's you get from Play the IAP (In app purchase) is done through Play. Setting that pin prevents booth purchases of paid apps and IAP. That's how I keep my little guy using apps on his N7 without fear of purchases or IAP.
  2. I have always just unplugged it without worrying about it. But others may have more or better edvice on this one.:)

Android no longer connects as removable storage, but as a portable device (MTP). It doesn't make a big difference for just transferring files using windows explorer. Occasionally I get a warning that media files may not play correctly when I transfer them, not sure why, but I always say transfer anyways and they work fine. You don't really need to gracefully disconnect the device from your computer, but it never hurts to do so if you remember.

So if I click Buy on this screen, then will it require me to enter in my password?

If you set up a pin lock then yes, it should stop you without entering your pin number or password. If it isn't set up correctly, then immediately request a refund while you are in the 15 minute window.
