I am in the UK with a sim free (unbranded, not rooted, as purchased) Galaxy S. Today I have been offered Gingerbread but when attempting to update I received the "Failed to acquire permission from the GTI9000 administrator - The programme will close". I have tried several times switching the Galaxy off completely each time. Any advice out there? Could it be that the world and his family are all trying to update?

Kies is the answer for sure. I've used it several times on my various Samsung's and it works really great.

Just make sure you get the right version for your model, theirs nothing like a smooth install. If you haven't already it helps to install the drivers on your computer first, then perform the Kies install. It does make a difference.

If you forget and install Kies first, then the drivers, often your phone will not be recognized. At least that's my experience.

Cheers... :)
