Help Unreliable voice to text

VincentAnoid

Just using the instant voice to text feature when you press the mic on the keyboard. The accuracy is so poor I can't even write out a full sentence without mistakes. I have no problem with typing with the onscreen keyboard but I'm just shocked at how unreliable and poor this feature is. Compared to iPhone's Siri voice recognition, I am not considering its talking back capability (Only how well it understands).

I'm using wifi with a fast connection as well :(

An example of this would be when I try and add a comma (,) in a sentence. It never understands!! Semi colon is the closest I can get to :((

According to the user manual:

Say “comma", "period", "question mark", "exclamation mark" or "exclamation point” to enter
punctuation.

From what I have found in my experience, voice to text systems (especially Google's and Microsoft's Ford Sync system) prefer detached and pronounced words. That means saying them "incorrectly" if you have to, especially when it comes to names. Its highly unnatural sounding, but it works surprisingly well. Amusingly though, it gets really confused when you try to use several punctuation marks at a time.

And apparently I need to double post since embedding a Youtube video broke the text in my post.

You read (dictated) out my post :O I can't talk like that, its too hard to talk without an accent. Almost robotic, they should be understanding us, not us understanding them :(

Did you manage to get the comma punctuation, I can't get a comma by speech.

I've just tried feeding my phone what you said in that video and it seems to work really well. Surprisingly though it is not 100% the same as yours. I have mine set to English UK, that could be a possiblity. I just don't have the ability to talk like that :(

I don't think you need to talk like a robot... just a little slower and a little better enunciation usually does it for me. I read your whole post in a slower than normal voice and it was very accurate.

I got 'I'm reliable in for' instead of 'unreliable and poor'.
and 'talking back to fidelity' instead of 'talking back capability'.

Other than that everything was correct including punctuation.

Then I did it in my normal voice.
I got 'with steaks' instead of 'without mistakes'
and 'how unreliable and for this feature is' instead of 'how unreliable and poor this feature is'
and 'talking back to the bility' instead of 'talking back capability'.

I'm actually impressed.

Ahah it does work for me :D I had to unplug my headphone jack, as its one of those with the microphone and 3 metal parts where you plug it in. I talk into my phone and it comes out really well. RIP BlackBerry :P

PS: I'm such an idiot

The other day I was holding my wife's 4S in one hand and my Nexus in the other and tested them side by side. I was actually a bit surprised that the Nexus held its ground entirely. No mistakes. With that said, anything from background noise, uncommon words, slur, slang, etc can throw either off. But slow and steady is the best bet for accuracy! Cheers!
