no eta though

All that sounds awesome!! Makes me wanna hurry and get this phone. I love hoe Samsung just gave CyanogedMod a phone.

Great news hahaha what! :D

Was discouraged when I read this posting by atinm yesterday over on xda developers in the Cyanogen Mod thread for the Galaxy SII...

"We are struggling with audio issues. Samsung has changed how the audio works from how it was done on the SGS phones, and did not follow Android ALSA practices. The drivers are open, but the upper layers is where the audio routing is done, and that is not open source. What we did discover is that the code has hooks to a closed source audio library all over the framework and both of these are closed, so we are having to reverse engineer the code without having access to the source (no, Samsung doesn't give us any more source than what they make public). Until we have audio, the phone is useless and so we have nothing to show yet. This will take longer than we hoped . . . sorry."

Coming from the Nexus One, I'm missing my Nightly "crack flash". :)

I think that post came before the one in the OP which mentions sound is working, so still seems like its coming quite soon.

Yeah, the latest, latest update is at xda-developers - View Single Post - News about CM7 on SGSII

Sound is fixed, but there's another showstopper:
- No video recording
- No high-res video playback (choppy)

Everything else seems to work fine.

No alphas, no betas.
We'll release official nightlies if we feel ready for it.

ETA: 24.12.2045

seems like the devs dont want to release it until its perfect, which is good but also kinda bad for everyone waiting who doesnt mind not being able to record video or watch hd video

Patience is a virtue,
Possess it, if you can.
Seldom found in a woman,
Never in a man. :D

For video recording and playback in HD... I'll wait!

Is it ready yet?

Update

Encouraging that the last two nightly commits contain fixes for sound and camera, specifically for the SGSII.

So what exactly will this do when it's released? Is it like a whole new OS? What are the benefits of having it? Sorry for all the questions, but it's obviously HUGE news and I just wanna be more in the know :)

Wow, that's pretty impressive! Mostly all went over my head but looks great if you know what you're doing. Thanks!
