I am currently on CWM v5.0.2.6 is it really worth upgrading if so what is the newest one and how the heck do I install it on my phone

then if I do install it on my phone will it miss up my back ups

Nah, stick with what you got. v6.x has issues with ext3 stock backups. 5.0.2.7 is ok too.
