Benson Leung -- the martyr at Google who took it upon himself to test and review all the third-party USB Type-C cables out there -- has recently had his laptop destroyed by one such cable. Benson always warned that using out-of-spec cables could cause severe damage, but we hadn't heard of an actual incident until just now. This is all the more reason to be sure you're using proper USB Type-C cables.
