Root Use on Straight Talk & Correct Rooting Procedure?

I'm thinking of buying an unlocked Inspire 4G, to replace my current unlocked & rooted ZTE Z990 on Straight Talk. I'd also like to have it rooted, although just for uninstalling bloatware, and changing the font, for now... silly stuff. :p

After doing a little research, I'm pretty much positive that it'll work on Straight Talk (the bands are compatible, I believe). Edit:Yeah, it'll definitely work on Straight Talk, never mind the above sentence.

However, the version I'm getting has Android 2.3.3. I've done a little research in the threads and have found that sometimes the root process is different depending on what build you have, or if you've updated to Sense 3? Could someone point me in the option that would best fit my build? Again, for now, I'm only interested in just changing minor things; no CM for me, yet. :p

Thanks very much for your response!! I'm definitely going to use the Ubuntu LiveCD method; I'm really thankful you pointed that out. :)

One more question if you don't mind...

If I need to do the preliminary steps in Scotty's thread, do you think I'd be less likely to run into errors if I did those in Ubuntu, as well?

Also, for anyone looking for the most up-to-date AAHK:

In the AAHK manual it says:

The following command will download, unpack and run the hack kit from terminal in Linux:
wget http://tau.shadowchild.nl/files/aahk-11092012.zip && unzip aahk-11092012.zip && sudo ./hack-ace.sh

I've edited the entry from what the Manual says. This version is from September... it's the most current, for anyone looking.

The unlock process is pretty straight forward. You are pretty safe unlocking and flashing the aahk boot image with Windows. Just holler if you have questions :)

Thanks for the link to the September 2012 version. Funny though that I cannot find it when I go to attn1's site.

But I can download it from your link. Thanks again. Will give it a look.

Thanks very much!! :) Hopefully, with this being my 3rd device rooted, I'll be alright, though. :p But, I'm very impressed by the work you guys have put into this forum, it beats my last two phones. :p

If you go to the "Advanced Ace Hack Kit" post on the blog, and keep scrolling 'til nearly the end there is a bolded section called "Download". It's right before the "Donate to" one. :)

Sorry for the double post, but I just thought of something, and maybe it was obvious to everyone else.
:p
If I were to set my phone up with Straight Talk, and then go through the entire rooting procedure, including Scotty's preliminary steps, I would have to re-enter all the ST info, right?

So, point being, it'd be better to just go ahead and root the phone before entering any Straight Talk info at all, right?

shouldnt matter one bit. thats the wonderful thing about gsm... just pop in your straight talk sim card, and then you may have to manually enter an APN,but you should only have to do that once. doesnt really matter wether you root first,or after. :)

So, it turns out that it does indeed have Sense 2.1, Android 2.3.3, and build number 2.47.502.7. Does that change my process, or do I still need to do all of your guide?

Or, can I just go ahead and use AAHK (or step 5 of your guide)?

If you're still on the sense 2.1 build, you can run the aahk directly. The guide is only for the newest, sense 3.0 build as there is no temp root method for it. :)

I really wanna thank you guys for helping me out with the whole process! :) It went much smoother than my last phone. :p

Hopefully this thread will help someone down the road!! :)
