Root Velocity 1.2 - Camera App Freezes Phone

dezzo

Newbie
I tried to use the Camera app on the Ally with Velocity 1.2, but it just causes the phone to freeze with a black screen.
The only way to recover is to remove the battery.

Anyone else experiencing this?

So far I'm not impressed with Velocity as it doesn't honestly seem that much faster than stock 2.2.2, and now I'm having various issues with things not working correctly.

I lowered the clock speed from 806 down to 768 and that seems to make the camera app work.

Weird how everything else would work just fine at 806 though.

Yep, even though everything else works the camera can be real touchy when it comes to clock speeds. :)

The good thing is that the CPU speed can be changed without needing a reboot, so I think I will just keep it at 806 and only lower it on those rare times I want to use the camera.

Anything higher than 806 and the whole system would freeze up or reboot.

I always had problems at 806. It would work ok for a bit, but I would start experiencing sluggishness. This may be what is causing your slow response. If you dont notice a difference between stock at 600mhz and a custom rom running close to 800mhz you may have gotten a bad flash. I did not notice enough difference between mid 700s and 806 that I can imagine it would be worth the hassle to switch back and forth. Keep in mind, this is still a fairly slow phone and is old - dont expect performance equivalent to any modern phone regardless of what rom you use. 800mhz on the ally cpu is not equal to 800mhz on a modern phone cpu.

Thanks for that info.. I think I will lower it down from 806 something in the mid-high 700's and leave it there.

I don't expect any blazing performance from this phone, that's for sure. :)
My primary phone is a Motorola Atrix and my backup is a Droid 2 Global.
I just use the Ally to test rooting, messing with the OS and stuff like that. Gotta be prepared for the day when I start to hack away at the Atrix!
