Root Velocity - Can't Update Google Apps

dezzo

Newbie
When I try to update the Gmail and Docs apps on Velocity 1.2, I get the following error:

"Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again."

Well, how exactly do I uninstall the previous versions?
There is no uninstall button for them. I also tried using the SystemPanel app Installer utility, but as Gmail is a system app it's not showing up in the list of apps that can be removed.

The current Gmail is the dark themed one that I installed when I flashed the Ally to Velocity. I don't care if the new version is dark themed, I just want it updated.

How?

  1. Find yourself a free root browser (Root Browser by jrummy seems to be a good one, look around, and i'm sure other will also have suggestions.)
  2. Give it root
  3. Navigate to /system/app
  4. delete the offending APKs
  5. Redownload from Market
  6. ???
  7. Profit

If I remember correctly the Script has a dynamic system app remover that I painstakingly created

You make it sound so difficult, just remove it using titanium backup. Most people have that app installed anyways.
The script is also good.

Well I removed the Gmail app using Titanium Backup, but when I tried to install the current Gmail app from the Market I got the following error:
"Application cannot be installed in the default install location."

I remembered that I had changed the default install location in the Velocity Toolkit to install apps to the SD Card, so I changed it back to the Internal Storage and tried again, and this time I got an "Incompatible Update" error when trying to install it.

Soooo... what now? :)

I think you have to reboot after uninstalling gmail before it will let you install a new one.
