[Verizon] Oh man I think I screwed up, lost root with no USB

Crashumbc

Android Expert
Quick story, Screwed up my USB port so I'm returning for insurance.

Rooted with JB sourcery.

I tried ODIN MOBILE and couldn't get it to work so I ended up restoring a 4.04 back-up I had.

I then installed a JRO03O update package from XDA

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889046

Which would be great! except I lost root and my custom recovery in the process and the bootloader is still unlocked

So, experts, is there a way to gain root even (temporarily) without USB?

all I need to do is lock the bootloader and factory wipe the phone :/

Bummer Crashumbc :(.

Unfortunately, the answer is no (that I'm aware of).

There were exploits for earlier versions of Android that would allow you to root, but these exploits have been patched.

There's a good chance that VZW won't care, though... I don't think I've actually read about anyone getting dinged (and this is a Nexus device, after all, so they shouldn't be surprised). That's not a guarantee, of course...

I'll keep thinking about this, but I'm not hopeful (there was another similar thread a few months back where I posted the same answer).

Best of luck and let us know what the end result is!

BUT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE ON A GN!!!!!

:P

No problem, I had a really bad feeling as soon as I clicked your app to lock the bootloader and it said "No Root" found...

That's literally the only thing thing not stock. kernal, rom, radios are all stock at this point.

Just that annoying little "unlocked" symbol at the bottom of the screen during boot up :(

Just strategically hold your phone when it boots...

Or open it up and hook the USB port back up. Everyone loves surface mount soldering!

...right?

Thanks Scary.

Iwoloschin, don't think I didn't think about it :P

At this point my replacement is "out for delivery" so I'm just going to get that set-up and ready to go.

I'll deal with the old one on Monday while I'm hungover from the 17th :P

Now scary alien has replied in this thread so he should know, but I have scary alien's Android root toolkit and it has the option to lock the bootloader, but you have lost root. Hmmm. . . I wonder if one of Wug's would work, but oh yeah, your USB port is fubar'd.

Hmmm. . . . Durn it! Ran out of ideas.

With your replacement phone go ahead and also buy a battery only charger and an extra battery so that you don't waste your USB port on just simply charging the battery. That port is for hacking, dang it!

I know not much help, but good luck

open up both phones, swap out the usb form the new into the old, then lock it, then swap the usb's back... I read somewhere directions on how to replace the usb and it didn't seem hard, but i haven't tried. of course, then you will be "impurifying" your new phone with hardware dabbling and risking messing something up... just a thought. Also, there is no guarantee that there aren't issues other than just the usb part, right? so could just turn out to be an exercise.
