I find this very odd. I haven't rooted or done anything to this device. My 4G speeds were slow so I restarted it and then I saw the initial screen that said CUSTOM and it shows a lock icon Unlocked....I thought this was weird so I restarted several more times and it no longer displayed.....

Anyone have an idea what happeend?

Did you use the first root rom? Have you installed a custom recovery? These are things that cause that.

If you used the first root rom, install Root66 rom, then do a factory reset and it will boot with normal screen.

If you have a custom recovery, well the option is to remove the custom recovery by flashing the stock rom back to it.

Either way the only issue is if you need to warranty the phone. And 10-15 later you can have it gone with odin and flashing stock.

I did a restart too and it showed up. I thought it was because I rooted the phone last week. I see no change in performance so going to ignore it.

im running root66 and custom recovery and just yesterday for the first time i got the "custom" screen...then i rebooted later in the evening and it was normal...

This is samsungs way of tracking root access and flash counts. you can use trangle away to reset your flash counter and there is also a adb way. So basically the can look up if you've been flashing customer roms and other stuff to your phone, which could void your warrenty or allow them to refuse service since you've modded your phone. I will post a work around later tonight.

You guys missed the key thing that i said....I did NOT root or do anything to my phone yet.
Everything is stock and it only appeared once after a random restart.

Well if I was you I wouldn't worry about it. If you haven't modded your phone or anything then you couldn't have tripped the flash counter and if you haven't rooted your phone it can't be saying you gave anything root access. Just check over the apps you've downloaded to see if any request or require root access or anything. but you got me stumped. I had this same symbol come up on my phone but it was after I rooted and gave root access to some apps.
