[Verizon] So when do you think custom ROMs will start running 4.04?

I'm on-call this week so I can't play too much (Although I did flash the 4.0.4 radios:P)

I'm really not interested in flashing back to a "stock" ROM at this point anyway.

I know a lot of Dev's used to wait till the source was available to update their ROMS. With Google no longer posting source for CDMA, how do folks think source will get released? Samsung? will folks use the GSM source and modifiy it?

I'm not sure that is entirely true. I thought it was only the LTE source that wasn't being released and the 4.0.4, by Google, would be. I have a feeling this entire thing was blown out of proportion, but I could be wrong.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks they need to go back to stock 4.0.2 in order to get the roms that are out now with 4.0.4 props. To get an OTA yes, but who wants that anyway unless you're not rooted and don't intend to root. You can also flash the stock 4.0.4 with a simple factory reset after backing up your apps if you are rooted. Why would you want to go back to stock if you can do that? There seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around here and no one correcting it.

Edit: Read the quote from Google. http://androidcommunity.com/google-...per-phones-not-publishing-aosp-code-20120206/

By "stock" ROM, I meant a plain vanilla ROM, not 4.0.2...

I'm too used to all the goodies in GUMMY,AOKP, and the like to go back.

From the article you linked...

"First, just to be clear this change is only related to AOSP support for these devices — that is, personal custom builds."

ASOP (from my understanding) IS the CODE all our awesome ROMS are currently built off of...

edit: to clarify, I'm not saying the sky is falling. I'm just trying to get more info. on when the custom ROMS might get updated :)

I'm curious about this myself. Since the 4.0.4 source hasn't been released yet as of now, I'm not panicking (yet). But if the 4.0.4 AOSP is released and all the CDMA/LTE custom ROM developers all throw their hands up in the air, it's really going to suck. I sort of expect their normal build processes won't work exactly the same. So the question is how many of these AOSP-based ROM developers will just give up or put the extra effort in to build the ROMs.

I hope we don't end up having to wait for a leak of the binaries that aren't part of AOSP...at that point we would be in the same boat as other people on non-developer phones (well, not as bad).

Fingers crossed... :(

It just seems to me that it's only about the LTE/CDMA piece which is proprietary. The rom source will drop and I think that's all the devs need at this point.

i know some devs have said once the source for the latest ota is released, they will develop roms for it from there, but dont count on em just yet. we may not see 4.0.4, we may see 4.0.5

it all depends

Oh I hear that, I'd like to know when source drops too, although it might be a little while yet. But the last line, which you didn't quote, reads,

"Remember that Nexus and developer devices have always come with, and will continue to come with, unlockable bootloaders. The impact that this move has on custom ROMs for Nexus phones and the XOOM is almost zero."

Perhaps that is a little more telling.

That quote is the author's opinion, not Google's, which is kinda of why I started this post. I was hoping to get confirmation of his opinion that "everything will be fine". :)

Yes, you are correct. Where would you like that confirmation to come from, however? If you speak or chat with the devs they are not worried. Head over to IRC #gnexus chan and you can ask all the devs you want. None seem to be worried or concerned. These guys are good and are really not concerned with these silly reports.

Thank you! That's actually what I was looking for :) I hadn't heard any Dev opinions on what all this means...
