[Verizon] Which rom is right for me?

Hi. Recently upgraded phones to S4, so I am now feeling its "safe" to root my old nexus :D Basically, it will be used as a ereader/music player/game platform. I'm looking for a rom that will do all that really well, and not have a whole bunch of bells/whistles that will drain the battery. I'm new to this, so I'm going to you guys for help :D

Your best bet is probably to root it and delete all the bloat. (Freeze anything first, so if it's necessary for the system you can unfreeze it.) No matter what ROM you put in there you're still going to have some bloat you'll want to get rid of, so why not just fo it to the ROM that it came with, and not risk bricking the phone?

Besides, an unbranded (no carrier) Nexus usually doesn't have much bloat that you didn't install yourself.

BTW, rooting and a ROM are totally different things. Most of the ROMs you'll find are rooted, but you don't have to flash a new ROM to root the phone. (Rooting is basically adding a file that Android leaves out.)

It was initially a verizon branded one, though I understand what you are saying. I was actually just looking to see if the stock version was best or would there be a rom out there with less/better battery usage (I want to say I remember reading about one that did that, but couldn't remember what it was called)

With the Galaxy Nexus in airplane mode and only the WiFi radio on you should have pretty good battery life, especially if you pop for a new battery (I believe the 2100mA Anker is around $11 on Amazon).
