Verizon's holiday phone launch?

Lurker
So...I have been lurking this forum for months now and finally decided to sign up so I can actively obsess with the rest of you rather than just as a wallflower. So I have a question and please forgive me if this is stupid or in the wrong forum ;)

Anywho! I can't find the biggest version of this picture that was previously posted in this forum about Verizon's "gameplan" for the holidays...for a refresher here's the best one I could find on google, sorry it isn't as good: http://phandroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/holiday-droid-550x424.jpg

I am curious, if now we have concluded that the Passion/ Dragon/ Whatever is not set to release until Q1 2010 then what (smart?)phone(s) are they planning on launching during their "Ramp Up" part of the holiday strategy? (It says: "Keep up the momentum with new device launches")

Good point, but I don't see it happening for some reason. I am probably going to get myself a Droid, then return it for the Passion when it comes out in January probably.

Oh I agree that it is not happening, as much as it hurts to think I've waited this long to just see the holidays go by :( Oh well. I will continue to wait with my horrible EnVTouch with no dictionary (UGHH) and slow internet.

I think I will break down and get the Eris at the end of the month and cross my fingers from there.

I believe the phone coming this Dec to VZW is the Moto Calgary.

Yeah, we're 9 days into the Dec 1-13 span of "Ramp Up: Launch new devices to keep the momentum going". As far as I can tell, the momentum stalled on the 3rd, the day after the Omnia II launched. Verizon? HELLO?

One thing you may be missing in the same catalog. Their Droid Launch campaign is from 11-5 till the day after christmas. I dont think you'd be seeing a passion launch during that time frame.

I realize that, but Droid is a line, not a phone. Well, it's a phone, too. :p But I'm assuming when the Passion launches in January, if that's when it really launches, it'll be a Droid Whatchamacallit, another in the series. Even if they're not launching the Passion in CY '09, shouldn't they be launching more than one phone in that 13 day period? So far, they released a phone on day 2 and then....nothing.

I'm thinking the Droid launch campaign ending on the 26th will mean you'll stop seeing the media blitz, especially the TV commercials. They'll probably reduce the intensity to text, web, and mail flyer marketing.

That is all true. But, odds favor the marketing material was set in place before the catalog came out which means it was set for the Moto Droid. They may have had room in advertising for the Passion had it be completed on time (remember the supposed race between the Passion and Curve 2 for black friday?). But with the delay in the Passion they seemed to have filled up the advertising space with the Moto Droid. So either Verizon will have a silent launch for the Passion or we're waiting till on or after the 26th.

from a marketing standpoint I don't see the sense in any company releasing anything at this point. most people have already made decisions on what to buy for Christmas.

I like the last timeframe (12/26-1/15: Target Self Gifters) That would be us :D Who is going to buy the Passion for someone else besides themselves anyhow.

Like so many others on this forum who still don't have an android phone, all I care about is getting myself out of AT&T and into Verizon with a good Android handset. As soon as I hear that Verizon isn't going to get the Passion/Bravo I'm going to buy a Droid. I'm DYING from this wait. Arrrgh.

I even stepped out of the shadows to make my first post and join the fray in this forum.

I'm with you. I'm on VZW but I just really want an Android device. I don't particularly love the Droid because I don't like/won't use the keyboard. But, if I hear I'm going to have to wait until June to get an Android device that's any better than the Droid, I might just give in for Christmas.
