Volume Rocker not working for phone calls

Hey all, need some help here. My XT926 phone is running Android 4.4.2

My Razr HD's sound is loud and clear for music, notifications, ringers and alarms. So, it seems my speaker hardware is good. But my phone call earpiece volume and my speakerphone volume is way too low.

I have tried going in to the Settings/Sound and found that there is no adjustment for Phone Call volume. Nothing I changed there affected my phone call volume.

I tried a couple of apps. One, Smart Volume Control, did have a Phone Call volume slider bar. It was then I realized when I tried to change the slider for phone call volume, nothing happened. Then I tried the volume rocker during a call and nothing happens. I can barely hear my earpiece when I receive a call. The other app did not affect the phone call volume at all. Once again, all other sounds are loud and clear and respond to the volume rocker??

I also have turned off the Enhanced Privacy Setting as some forums have suggested without any change.

I also read about changing the 04 VOCODE setting in the hidden menu, but this version does not have the 04 VOCODE, I was able to get to the hidden menu with the app AnyCut. It seems it might have some effect, but also might make the phone unusable in certain regions.

Anybody have any idea of what else to try? I have only had the phone a couple of weeks. I purchased it on Craigslist. I don't remember if the volume rocker was working when I first got it.

I decided to ask in this forum for other ideas before resetting to factory and re-starting troubleshooting from there.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Android Forums.

I have used ... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cb.volumePlusPro ... for years on multiple phones and the bar control display shed a lot of light on the confusing volume controls.

There is also a free version (vs. the .99 version) that I have not looked at for a long time.

I suggest you try installing it and see if the controls are actually set the way you think they are ... I know in my case they weren't.

Thanks Thom,

I gave the free version of Volume + a try, but still the volume control for the phone earpiece or speakerphone is not working. It's pretty strange as all the other volume controls work loud and clear??

Update

I did do a full factory reset in case an app had changed my sound settings. But, same issue. Like I said the volume rocker works fine for music, videos, notifications, ringer and the speaker/speakerphone is loud and clear.

I am still guessing then it's a software issue. Does anyone know a hidden menu in the Droid Razr HD, Android 4.4.2, that might be able to get the rocker volume working again for phone calls?

Thank you

This seems to be a problem with Moto phones. They turn the volume down so it doesn't crackle but you can't hear because it is to low.

You can try going into the dialer, then menu settings and enabling full tty HAC mode. It may boost volume a bit in addition to enabling the HAC coil.

If you are rooted you can edit the snd_soc_msm_2x file to boost the volume.

Thanks Lars,

I tried it, but didn't seem to make any difference. I am now running 4.4.2, so I can't unlock my bootloader to root my phone to change the volume settings. Good idea though.
