Guys do you think they'll be alright? How long should I wait for them to dry before using them, and what kind of damage will detergent have done to their innards?
You might be OK, but you need to make absolutely sure they're dry before putting any current through them - i.e. plugging them into anything. The reason being the water (or more accurately, the impurities in the water) could cause a short. I guess it's theoretically possible that this could even damage whatever you plug into, though the current is so low, I don't know how much of a serious risk that is in truth.
A common approach is to put electronics in (uncooked ) rice for a day or two. The dry rice supposedly draws the moisture out of the innards - eventually.
It's is however, possible that some gunge has gotten into the earpieces which could affect how they work. I have heard of people using distilled water to clean electronics before going through the drying process .. but I think I would avoid doing that if at all possible.
I washed my Apple ear pods like 10 times. Even if you use them they will be okay. Just if they are not dry, it won't play quality sound. Just let them dry for a day or two and they will be okay.
