Went to VZW today..

Went into my local verizon store today and sadly they didn't have a dummy display. I checked out all the other phones and once the Tbolt comes out they simply won't compare. The good news is that (not sure if this was posted yet) once you buy the 4g data plan assuming it is the same price as 3g, you will be grandfathered into it if they jack it up in the summer. I didn't want to interrogate the verizon guy too much, because I'm sure he's had enough of it lately, but he reassured me that it'll be out this month. I'll probably pre-order it at verizon and maybe it'll be a bit cheaper than BB.

I did pick the guy @ our Verizon store's brain a little in reference to if the TB was worth the wait, which was a definite yes. He told me they have all the accessories already in stock (including a dock which I have seen a lot of people wanting) but no definite date. He sounded more like he was feeling a St. Patty's day release.

My main question (and I have seen it asked before) was is it worth the wait which in his opinion it definitely is.

I was there during the afternoon when there wasn't anybody else so he was more than happy to answer my questions. He laughed when I first asked so I assume they are getting bombarded with the same questions we are all wondering.

When questioning the size he pulled out a very dusty dummy phone so I was able to hold it and gauge the size. He said the dummy was heavier than the production and compared the actual to his Samsung phone (not sure if it was the fascinate or galaxy s).

This will be my first smartphone so I'm anxious, but know I am going to have to be patient.

He also confirmed the gradnfathering of the data package and said Kansas City was supposed to be 4G sometime in August. He said as long as you are under contract, they can't make unauthorized changes to your account. He did warn that if you damage your phone and have to get a new one that they may have to make changes at that time and this may be the time when they can get you.

A nice place to go for information is new or "flagship" stores, since that is where their regional managers can be found every now and then. Unless the gentlemen I spoke with are great poker players, they have no clue when the TB is releasing. They did tell me two things:

1. They think it is still March
2. The TB has become a running joke by everyone in VZW field operations (stores folks and corporate support teams) and has become the big "?" device, rather than Thunderbolt.

Welcome to the forums. Your last paragraph got me wondering, is there a place to go and see when your area is supposed to get 4G coverage? I know they have a map showing the initial coverage areas but is there a way to find out when other areas will be getting 4G?

Which store in KC did you go to? I live in KC as well and have been wanting to see a dummy unit. Let me know.

Thx

It was the kiosk store in Oak Park Mall, downstairs by Victoria's Secret. The guy I talked to seemed to know what I was asking him, but like many have said the release date is merely a speculation amongst all. His name was Shahrukh Zaman, but said everyone calls him Shrek, no joke, it's on his business card!

I'll probably go back to buy it from him since he was nice and humored my questions. Seems the least I can do.

Thanks for the welcome too, just been trolling, but if the phone ever comes out I hope to learn lots from this forum!
