Help What does "EV" mean?

Right next to the signal bar, my phone either says EV with a D under it, or EV with up and down arrows. It keeps jumpng back and forth between the two. I don't remember noticing that happen before. it is also displaying 1xD too....

Anyone have a good explanation of what my phone is doing?

3G.. Simple as that you have 3G signal it switches ev arrows (active) ev d (dormant)
