whats the screen like? gorilla glass?

i've looked everywhere i was wondering what type of glass the phone used and how scratch resistent it was. does it need a screen protector? i know the epic dont neccisarily need one, i was comparing the two

I don't imagine that it's any worse than my Hero. I never had a screen protector on it and it lasted 14 months without a scratch.

I stoped by a store to grab a protector and the kid told me this screen is tough. He took out his keys and banged on it. After I stopped cringing I noticed there wasn't a scratch. Just smoothness. But knowing me, I still picked up a screen protector. From what I could research its not gorilla glass.

man you could tell me that the screen is bullet proof, but i would still buy a screen protector for it... I am really ocd'ish...

Well if the screen is anything like the hero, then no protection needed. I rocked my Hero for 14 months without a screen protector on it and not one scratch.

one of the greatest features of the Hero to me was the glass screen. My phone has been through hell and back. from flying out of my hand to being thrown into bags without any kind of protection. And not one scratch. I even did the key test with no scratch. So if the Shift carries the same glass, there's no way I will pick up a protector. plus I feel they take away from the quality of the visuals

I have small scratches already after a month.. I can only see them when the screen is off and I hold at a certain angle, but they are there. Screen protectors are in the mail. Unrelated - but annoying me as I type this.. my screen is slipping down on me as I use the keyboard. I hope it doesn't get worse than this, but I have a feeling it will. Hopefully I can convince sprint that something like this should be covered under warranty....

I put a screen protector on and I am thinking of taking it off. The reason being it smudges a lot easier, is harder to clean and doesn't feel quite as nice as glass. Without a protector I can use the inside of my shirt and one quick swipe the screen is clean. I really have to rub with my screen protector. I can also feel a very, very slight difference in the quality of swiping or how easy it is to lightly swipe my finger across the plastic protector. Maybe it is the brand I am using (Seidio) but I am considering removing it since it was pretty cheap and I am not so sure it is needed. I am careful with my phone and if I drop it a protector isn't going to prevent a shatter.

Doesn't hurt to take it in and try. Mine is stiff enough that I can lightly shake it and the screen will not come down while it is up.
