What's the weather like where you are?

Another surprise weather front almost passed over my location. Yesterday, the system dropped nothing at my friends house that's ten miles to my North, and .19" here. Today, he received .08" and I got .01". I told him it was his turn to deal with all of the high water. :) It's a shame that we are almost getting the rain we need but have to deal with the high humidity of the near misses.
 
It's in the low 80's here. A bit hazy with no distinct clouds. Had a pretty good rain last night. highs in the lower 90's for the near future and sunshine tomorrow.

No rain this morning but it is cool. The overnight low was sixty nine and it is only seventy one degrees now. Eighty eight is the predicted high which is awesome. Currently there isn't any wind but the humidity is in the seventies percent.
 
The day is starting out just a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday. The high today is to be in the low nineties. Another nice day for August. There is a chance of rain tomorrow. We can only hope.
 
Currently it is 69° with 89° the predicted high. There is a slight wind from the East with humidity at 87%. The chance of rain for today was removed from the forecast.
 
There was a chance of rain today earlier in the week but it has been removed. My ten day has the days in the lower to mid nineties but no rain. It's a shame that the recent rains that passed through missed my location. Currently it is seventy three degrees with high humidity and zero wind.
 
With the rain removed from yesterday's forecast, a sudden popcorn cell popped up and dropped .33" of rain around six pm. It was a cold rain and it hailed some golf ball size hail a mile from here. It dropped the temperature from the high nineties to the low seventies. The temperature this morning is still in the low seventies with low nineties predicted. Currently, there is zero wind and the humidity is 78%.
 
Back to the typical late August weather, I'm afraid. Today's high is to be one hundred and tomorrow's high one hundred two. Oh boy! The ten day forecast is calling for mostly triple digit temps with no chance of rain.
 
Another triple digit day with no rain in sight. The grass is crispy.

As you know, I ride my bicycle religiously. I daily ride by two houses, side by side, that must have been built on an underground stream of sorts. They both expel water to the curb which drains down the street and then crosses the road I travel into an open drainage system. Their water is always present and grows moss. A couple of weeks ago I noticed water in the gutter but not crossing the road. This week there is no water. First time it's been dry since 2019.
 
The weather is depressing. My ten day forecast has ten more days of brutal heat. Everything around here is burning up. It's just too dang hot and we can't water nearly enough to help. It is 99° at three PM and it feels like 108°. There is a substantial South wind that is making matter worse. Trees are starting to drop their leaves. The grass is crisp under foot and many yards have zero green in them.
 
I get it: I looked at our Tempest 10-day forecast and, other than a single 89-degree day, the next ten days will be 90 degrees plus. I would have thought that, by the end of the second week of September, we'd at least be back in the 80s but nope: it's the summer that refuses to die. Yet another year of no leaves turning magnificent colors of red and gold in autumn... but turning brown and falling off. Our lawn guy had skipped us last week because the grass hadn't grown enough to rate a mowing.
 
I have a couple of lawns that I have skipped two weeks in a row and they aren't needing attention yet. :( The irrigated lawns on wells are hanging in there but there are areas of full sunlight that have just died. That's the problem with trying to grow a pretty Northern grass in the hot plains of South Kansas. I haven't seen any dust storms yet but nothing at this point would surprise me. It is and has been seriously far too hot and dry. I've been mowing for 35 years and I've never seen it this bad.

The odd part is, if you look at the rainfall totals for this year, it doesn't look glaringly bad. The sad cut is, most all of those rains were crazy downpours that quickly ran off. Ever bit was helpful for our reservoirs but didn't do much of anything for the yards. We even experienced some flash flooding in low lying areas. It's hard to believe the total yearly is high and we continue be arid.
 
Stormy weather was added to my ten day forecast like a worm is added to a hook. Now I'll hang on until Thursday with the thought there is a 40% chance it might be cooler and rain. I bet that it will rain Thursday... just nowhere close.

On a positive note, thunderstorms swept through around midnight (knocked out the power just long enough to turn on every smart bulb in the house - including the overhead bedroom lights at full intensity white). It wasn't a downpour but we got 1.5" of much-needed rain.
