Where to start?

Hello all. The screen on my evo has cracked and my brand new replacement phone has arrived. Is there a way to transfer all my pics,msgs,apps, etc... to the new phone. I am also interested in Rooting. Where shall i start? should i try rooting before transfering old stuff?

Start from the beginning.

Any rooting questions you have feel free to post them on the All things Root sub-forum.As far as getting back your pics and messages try transferring everything to ur computer and then to ur replacement phone.
 
I would try rooting your broken phone with Unrevoked, doing a NAND backup with ROM Manager, move the SD card over to the new phone, then doing the same on your new phone but restore your ROM instead.
 
go to the sprint store and they can transfer the contacts and the pics, the apps should be downloadable again for free cause you already bought them - not sure about the apps

pretty sure we got him all taken care of in his other thread when he posted these back on the 12th/13th.
