Why is rooting good?

Hi,
Not really why is rooting good, but what are manufacturers hiding from us and why?
I'm an advanced Linux user, so gaining root access isn't the problem, more just curious on thoughts as to what and why they kept stuff from us.
Oh yes, and what big benefit does it bring us?

They do not want you installing things like roms easily, as theres more chance you could screw it up and they would need to replace your phone.
Also they do not want you uninstalling bloatware that makes them money.
