Help WiFi turning on and off during games, even with strong signal?

moeburn

Newbie
I have a rooted SGH-I747M Galaxy S3 with Bell Canada, with stock ROM/firmware, and the flash counter reset with TriangleAway.

So my WiFi is connected, the signal is varying from -57dB to -70dB, which as I understand is 100%-80% signal strength, as confirmed by the "bars", and it works just fine for transferring large files at 2mB/s, streaming movies over the network, or browsing the internet, or watching youtube, etc.

But when I try to play SG: Deadzone, the connection keeps dropping in and out during the game, and the message "Connected to Wi-Fi network moeburn" keeps coming up all the time during the game. I even managed to close the game quickly enough once that I could see my wifi signal icon flashing on and off about once or twice a second, until about 5 seconds after closing the game it stayed on.

So I googled the issue, and the first thing I tried was this:

"Basically what user 'Muskstick' suggests is going into service mode (*#0011#), hit menu button, select wifi and disable the power save mode"

Well I did that, and I successfully disabled power save mode. That made no difference. The issue still happens in the game. I've tried rebooting, closing all background programs, etc.

But sometimes the game runs fine and I don't have this issue at all. So do you think this is a bug with the game, and I should report it to Madfinger Games, or is there something wrong with my phone?

EDIT: my router is saying this:

Oct 23 21:06:24 Gargoyle hostapd: wlan0: STA 34:23:ba:5a:ae:15 IEEE 802.11: disconnected due to excessive missing ACKs

Based on the fact that the WiFi connection is solid with other stuff and the disconnects only seem to happen with the game, I would say there is config issue with the game itself.

The Router is telling you when it sends a packet, it is not getting consistent responses (Ack) therefore it assumes no connection.

I am not sure what config options you have with the game but if there is a setting for "ackfrequency" try changing those settings to see if it helps..

Just a thought.

Make sure router firmware is up to date. Also it may help to manually change the router to another channel in case the one it's picked is heavily used and being interfered with. Does distance to router change things? Try moving to next to it and see if issue resolves itself. If so then signal strength is a factor.
