Will I go over my data allowance?

I am thinking of getting the HTC Desire but the only thing that is really putting me off is the data allowance issue. I have seen a good deal with Orange but the data allowance is 500mb.

Now I need a phone where I can constantly check my emails and have push email set up. Also I like the updated news feed screen on the HTC Desire and would like to have these two features on permanently. If I was to do this how much data would be used if I recieved and sent around 30-40 emails a day and had the news screen constantly updated?

I want the HTC Desire but am just thinking of getting the Blackberry Bold 9700as there will be no fear of going over the data allowance and incurring hefty charges.

I want to order either one today so would appreciate any honest opinions

500mb is pretty low, I've never heard of such a low data plan--you sure that's right? I've used 331.63mb in just 4 days!

I have never gone over 350 mb a month and I use my data a lot to surf and email. Just don't watch a lot of videos and you'll be fine.

ive just done a test, i turned on my web for 1hr, and did nothing, it used 1.3mg in that time, just doing updates, so over a working day, maybe 15 mg used doing nothing, however as u click on anything 2mg seems to be added to the total, a few mins of youtube added 20meg!, best thing is to make sure wen at home, u use yer wifi network, free and twice a fast!!

I used 800 mb last month on my DInc. I don't watch videos on it or anything, I just surf the web and download stuff to the phone.

constantly on the internet. or playing wifi games, using google maps, playing music from pandora, facebook, twitter..
it all adds up

What's the deal?

500Mb is becoming the norm in the UK

Not really, I think most are unlimited with 1Gb fair use policy which means you can go over once in a while without penalty. Orange have the worst deals for mobile data. Giffgaff is by far the best as it's truly unlimited.

I stand corrected, think I got that 500Mb number from a previous discussion which was about Orange.

To the OP, t-Mobile have the Desire 'free' on a
