Will rooting disable my unlocked G1?

i've been trying to figure out if i would like to root my T-Mobile G1. i have unlocked it and it now works in Mexico with TelCel where i just buy minutes every so often. i don't use their data network because it's more expensive and because the WiFi works on my home and work networks very well and i just use SipDroid for calls when in the U.S. and the TelCel system for just regular phone calls when in Mexico.

Will i have to unlock this thing again if i root it?

Have a great evening! :)

It really depends on if you're using a current version of the OS because you anything RC30 or later (if yours was a US T-Mobile version) requires downgrading the OS, which I imagine could wipe out your unlock, it shouldn't be too hard to unlock it again though, since the phone should follow your sim card, as long as the provider follows the cell standards required by your phone.

Thanks, Jonnyflash for the info and help.

So unlocking really has to do with taking it off T-Mobile's network and making it "open" which allows the phone then to be hooked up to a different network via the sim card. This means that i need to write down the info about TelCel's network that is contained in the OS so i don't have to go back to their store and have them reset it.

O.k., will i still be able to connect to the Market and download and install at least the same apps as before?

Thanks again, and have a great afternoon! :)
