Will SGS2 on At&t make calls overseas?

Hi guys.

Is the ATT version of the S2 capable of being used internationally. I will be traveling to Dubai and Calcutta in a few months and wonder what will happen if I try to make a call.

Last time I did it I had an unlocked HTC running Windows Mobile and that didnt work. But I wasnt sure if it was the phone that was the problem (thought it was a "World" phone) or something with my plan.

Sorry if this is kind of an odd question but figured this was the place to ask.

Thanks
Ernie

I've used my phone in Europe with no issues. Obviously, you'll want to call your At&t rep to put yourself on an international plan prior to going (avoid incredibly high roaming fees). AT&T partners up with cell phone companies abroad, and you can use your phone. Voicemail might not work too reliably, depending on the carrier.

Why use AT&T (any) plan abroad when you can unlock your phone and use a local SIM which will, without a doubt, be cheaper than AT&T? SII can be easily unlocked, if you are long enough customer of AT&T they will even give you the unlock code. If not, there is an app that does it without AT&T favors.

I'd say it would depend on how you need to use your phone and ho long you will be abroad. If you are only going to make a couple of calls a day and are only there for a week or two, the AT&T Intl. plan makes more sense than the hassle of unlocking and getting a new sim (and therefore a new number, unless you use Google voice). If you need to be on your phone all the time for an extended stay then getting a local plan is probably the right way to go.

In either case, the GS2 will work as well as any other phone.

I also have no idea why use and att phone for calling overseas. Just get a sim from a place like maxroam and put it in an unlocked device
