mx player is awesome, have u tried a 1080p video yet using hardware mode? My droid x could only play 720p and that was pushing it, hoping the galaxy nexus can play 1080p smoothly.

Erm, why? The device only plays 720p, so it literally has to discard all of the extra information going into 1080p/downscale it to fit. No benefit.

Since MX player can play almost any format I just want to be able to drop videos on without converting and I have a decent amount of 1080p videos. Also for outputting to a television.

There is not a lot of difference between 720p and 1080p when it comes to video quality to the naked eye on a screen as small as the Nexus. I have a 60" plasma and can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. No need for a 1080p video to be on the Nexus.

I think MX still needs updated to work with our hardware. I have watched a couple hours of video on it from 480i to 720p and the hardware decoding mode stutters while the software decoder is butter smooth.

Fullscreen 16:9 is the main reason I got this device and it is glorious.

No argument on the actual nexus screen, but if you can't tell between a 1080p and 720p on a 60 inch then yeah we are always going to disagree on video quality.

I knew we'd eventually be seeing threads like this coming along in this particular device forum. ;)

If you can tell, then you must have super vision because there is hardly any difference to the naked eye. Tons of reports out there as well that will back up my statement.

Aha, THAT makes perfect sense.

Does it output at 1080p?

According to the wikipedia it will
"The Galaxy Nexus also hosts support for MHL through the use of its Micro USB 2.0 port.[35] This means that the Galaxy Nexus has the ability to output up to 1080p audio-visual content (through HDMI) to any supported external display such as HD Television.[36]"

maybe he's sitting about 100ft away haha

lol that would explain a lot.

That's opinion and like I said we will differ. On a small screen 1080p is definitely pointless, on a large screen it can be a huge improvement. If the source is poor then you could be comparing a crappy 720p upscale to a crappy 1080p upscale where both could be equally crappy. Other than that maybe you just have poor vision, because mine isn't super.
