Youtube clips don't close until another is opened?

I search a subject on youtube, or select one from the recommended list or whatever, open it and then realise it's terrible (why did they get rid of their pre-ratings!?).

I hit the back button to return to search results but the clip keeps playing in the bottom right hand corner, chewing up my data allowance.

It keeps playing noisily down there until I choose another clip or have to exit the youtube app and open it again.

Can anyone tell me how to stop this happening, it's exceedingly annoying.

It's due to a recent update. The tiny little box can be flicked away either to the right or left and it will go away swiftly.
