co pilot 8 on htc desire

Evening guys.

Looking at getting co-pilot 8 for my HTC desire. Anybody using this application out there that could share their experiences, both good and bad?

Ive just got it and used it for the first time yesterday when going to Bristol Airport.

Worked flawlessly for me, connected to GPS very quickly and the directions/map were very clear.

Doesn't use any data as well with the maps being stored on the SD card.

Glad I got it.
 
Great to hear guys! I have a 4 gig SD card at the moment. How much space do I need for UK maps?

Does the software stop the phone going into sleep mode?

Which version of Radardroid did you go for - the Lite version or paid version? Does it run ok in the background with co-pilot running?

only got radardroid yesterday and its version 2.0 so cant say how it runs but someone i spoke to online says they have no problems

Downloaded Radardroid last night and usef it on my drive to work this morning. Very useful app that works exactly as advertised.

Any more feedback on co pilot 8?
 
Copilot 8 is very good. Had it on my HTC HD2 and bought it again for my Desire. HOWEVER, Google Navigation is very good as well. I actually find the maps on Navigation a little bit clearer than CoPilot. Biggest advantage is that Navigation is free - just wish i'd known that before I spent 20 odd squid on Copilot again.
 
I use copilot 8 and ive had no problems. yes it stops the phone from sleeping. I actually find google maps more accurate ie. it doesnt try to take me down as many obscure roads, but copilot has the offline maps which is a huge benefit particularly if im driving abroad which I sometimes do. You also dont have to rely on a good internet connection with copilot unlike google maps.
 
I've got CoPilot8 too. I tried most satnav software before settling on CoPilot. Generally works well but its not perfect;

- can only import one POI file at a time. Bit of a pain when you have 6 files of speed camera to upload.
- doesn't work with ThickButtons (but then I've stopped using ThickButtons now).
- you can't turn the volume up (well you can but it doesn't save it).
- it doesn't stop the phone going to sleep whatever setting you use. I use KeepScreen to get round this.

I paid for it in preference to Google navigation. Mainly because I can upload my speedcam POI's.
 
I have Radardroid for speed camera positions, so the limit on POI files isn't an issue.

How much data does googlemaps navigation chew through then? My main concern, and why I was looking at co pilot 8 was the fact you need an internet connection with the google application.

Sorry, I didn't explain too well.... :confused:

I use PocketGPSWorld for speed cameras. I download them by camera type (one file for Gatso's, one file for Spec's, etc - that way I get different icons for each). CoPilot suggests you can import multiple files in one upload but it only actually imports the first file. You need to repeat the import for each file which is a pita.

Definitely no problems with POIs as PGPSW has 1,500 more speed cams than Radardroid :D
 
Is it right that Google navigation only requires a data connection during route planning, and caches your route so you only need gps as long as you stick to the route planned?

Hi - I'm considering running satnav with radardroid in the background - Does radardroid automatically start up if the gps is activated by the satnav program, or do you have to start up radardroid and then the satnav prog? What settings do you use for screen mode, map etc. so it is just in the background?

I've got copilot8, but find some of its routing a bit weird (roads that aren't there!). I'm giving Navigon for android a try but want to use radardroid which I understand can use the pocketgps database rather than their download.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Cheers

I don't have any problem with CoPilot Live 8 keeping my Desire awake when using it...

I use this app and love it. It gives plenty of warning of upcoming Speed Cams (if enabled) and lets you know the speed limit (if known) and beeps if you go over it as my wife found out. :)

Although Google navigation is free it does use data and if you lose connection you have problems so I prefer to have a paid for navigator.

Copilot is a great nav app (not yet Froyo compatible)...

Just to add that CoPilot is now Froyo compatible.
 
yep i got copilot8 on htc desire with froyo 2.2
no probs at all , speed camera warning works great , and i have also got live trafic updates that i paid
 
I've used Google Navigator and loved it, but as mentioned it does need data if you go off-route.

I tried Co-pilot the other day and I'm very impressed. It's pretty easy to use and looks/works well.

Only main 'gripe' is that I have to change my keyboard type back to qwerty in the phones settings before I can enter a destination, as I prefer using the phone keypad type KB it's annoying but not the end of the world.

It just makes me feel a bit better knowing I have an offline solution for sat-nav aswell as the great Google offering.

Strange as I have been using CoPilot 8 for the last 5 months and have it plugged in to the lighter socket to charge whilst in use. The screen has never gone to sleep on any of my journeys.

Hmmm. Out of curiosity I've just tried it without Keepscreen. Seems to stay on OK now. Wonder when that changed...?

It also seems to save the volume now (a recent update fixed that). Just with they'd move it to the SD card 'cos its a big f'ker :D
 
I've been using copilot on froyo for over a month including France/UK. I just love the look and feel of it. And it updates so fast (keeps up with you on roundabouts so you see your exact position before turn). Have also installed live traffic for a tenner. Very happy with it. In comparison to google nav I prefer this and don't have to worry about data connection.

How do you use the Live Traffic add-on then? Does it just tell you traffic disruption in your local area, or does it track you journey progress and offer re-routes if there are traffic snarl ups?

Once installed just click the live traffic button and it tells you if there are any potential problems on your route. If there are are problems it is supposed to auto work out an alternative route. Have not had any on couple of journeys since updating so can't confirm this as yet. Not sure what happens if problems appear during journey.
