Anyone using Tasker?

Can you tell me how you did that? I've been trying to mess with the settings but can't get it right.

*EDIT*
So I read the Wiki (Muteinmeetings - Tasker Wiki) and followed those steps including adding the word 'Meeting' in the Title portion of the Calendar Entry. Is that correct?

That's it. The only thing I would add is that you should review the pattern matching documentation for Tasker. Having Meeting in the title will only match calendar entries where the title is Meeting. It will not match meeting, Meeting with Joe, or Board Meeting. If you want to match the word meeting anywhere in the title, with any case, use *meeting*.

It's 10:55am now, and I just created a time-based profile from 07:55 - 16:55 that turns silent mode on. As soon as I hit the Apply button in Tasker, the profile went active and my phone went into Silent Mode. If you don't exit Tasker using the Back hardware key or the Apply button, a newly created profile won't activate.
Thanks UM. I finally figured it out. In the context, apparently the days need to go before the time. As soon as I did that, it worked.

If I understand you correctly, it shouldn't work that way. I just created a profile using a time context of 07:10 - 9:10 (it's 08:10 now) and added a day context for Tuesday (today). After hitting the Apply button in Tasker the task went active.

Is there something I can do that will reproduce the problem?

How do I get my phone to automatically change Ringer state during specific calendar events?

Just setup a Calendar Entry context using the parameters you want to match (i.e. title, description, etc.). Then add a task to change the volume (or whatever else you want to change).

Let's say you want to turn on silent mode when you have an appointment at the doctor's office, and that the title for any such appointment will begin with Dr (e.g. Dr Bananabrains, or Dr Lemoncrump - yes, my kids play on Toontown).

Context: Calendar Entry [Title: Dr *]
Enter Task:
Silent Mode [Set: On]

Any time you have a calendar entry with a title matching Dr * (that's an upper case d, lower case r, and a space, followed by anything else), silent mode will be turned on. When the appointment ends, silent mode will be returned to its previous condition.

Using this specific match string will prevent matching things like Drag Racing (no space after the r).

See the Tasker documentation for more information on matching.

IMPORTANT NOTE: the 1.0.7 (and earlier) release version of Tasker has a bug that interferes with synchronzing recurring calendar entries if you have any calendar entery contexts defined in active profiles in Tasker. If you want to use the above, I suggest you either wait for the 1.0.8 (or later) release, or download the beta from the developer's web site.

Any way to have Tasker turn my phone off at a certain time?

Tasker can't do it on its own. As far as I know it's not possible for any app to do this on a non-rooted device. If you're rooted, it's possible that Tasker's Action Intent could utilize some other app to do it, but that would depend on the other apps ability to receive instructions via the Action Intent.

Yeah, its not worked that way for me. I'm not sure how to get the problem to reproduce. I had Context > Time > Day, and it wasn't working. When I went Day > Time, then it worked. I just tried it again your way, and its seeming to work. 8th time's the charm???

Anyone want to step me through how to do 2 things with tasker:

1) How to set it up so when plugged into usb cable or ac charging the lock screen never turns on...

2) Have wifi only turn on on its own when it is charging?

I use Mixzing as my mp3 player. Does Tasker work with that program? What I would like is for the volume to be turned down when I plug in my headphones. Also and more important, I would like for the phone to only send me phone calls and texts while listening to music. I don't want notification for every email or calendar notice, etc.
Will Tasker do this and with Mixzing?
If Tasker won't do this anyone have any idea of a program that will keep the phone from notifying me of anything but calls and texts during playing music?
Thanks for your help.

I'm playing around with cascading menu tasks:

Cascading Home Screen Menu - Tasker Wiki

My problem is that the labels I assign to my menu tasks don't show up when I click the main menu widget I created (the assigned icons appear with no labels). If anyone knows how I'm screwing up please set me straight. Maybe I'm simply misunderstanding the function of the "Label" box when assigning a menu task. Other than that the menu tasks appear to work very well.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Hello Community,

Sweet app, I love the potential that it has. I have an idea for a profile I haven't been able to find any info on, hoping someone here had an idea.

I'm using the Sprint Evo first of all. I don't know if other phones do this, but if you hit the home button twice (or once if you are already on the home screen) it zooms out to show you all 7 screens, which you can then click into. You can also get to this view by doing a pinch zoom; has a little multi-touch as well.

I really like the zoomed out screen view and would like to create a profile that showed this view whenever I unlocked the phone (slide down to unlock after idle). I've looked around the settings on Tasker to find somewhere I could use a physical button press or a multi touch gesture, but didn't see it. Granted, I'm very new at Tasker so don't be too brutal if I just missed it!

Anyone have any ideas on how to do this? I think it would be a great profile for anyone whose phone can do the zoom out view.

There's a bug (that I thought had been fixed) where if all of the menu items are "Load App", the labels don't get used and only the icons appear. Is this what you're running into? If so, you can add a Stop action as an entry in the menu and this will make the labels appear. Selecting Stop in the menu won't actually do anything.

I don't have an Evo, but LauncherPro works the same way. You can use the Go Home action in Tasker (it's in the App category) to return to the Home screen, or the zoomed out screen, depending on your current screen. But there's no way for Tasker to know if you're already at the Home screen.

Pent (the developer of Tasker) is working the Fede (the developer of LauncherPro) to be able to tell LauncherPro which home screen to go to, and this may include being able to zoom out. However, I wouldn't expect this to work with the default home app on the Evo.

Yep, I just added a Stop in the menu (labeled "exit") and that did the trick. By the way, all of the menu items were "Perform Task" items.

Thanks for the tip and I'll report the bug. :)

I just tried using a Display Unlocked event profile with a 'Go Home' task which is in the App Action menu, and it worked on my Hero with Sense 2.1 and with LauncherPro.

But, it only worked when I was on the main homescreen obviously. Alternatively, it worked by adding a second 'Go Home' task if I wasn't on the main homescreen when I unlocked. So, there just isn't a way to know which homescreen is active to bring up the zoom screen in either situation.

But, to make it work, I created another event profile for 'Display Off' with one 'Go Home' task so that the Display Unlocked event profile with one Go Home task would work as expected albeit it bit slow on my antique Hero.

Profile Event: Display/Display Unlocked with task App/Go Home.
Profile Event: Display/Display Off with task App/Go Home.

I'm using Tasker on my Nexus One as a JuiceDefender alternative, and have actually found that it works better for me than JuiceDefender.

I've got Tasker turning on mobile data (using APNDroid) every 15 minutes for 3 minutes. It also turns on Auto-Sync at this time so that GMail and Facebook will sync. Data is turned on if the screen is unlocked, and is turned off when the screen goes off (unless this occurs during the scheduled 3 minute window).

I've been playing around with other profiles as well, like starting MixZing when headphones are plugged in, turning on GPS for when location-based apps are launched, and even reading my text messages to me when I'm driving.

Wow, those look pretty sweet. But how do you import them into Tasker for use?

I have a .icn subfolder in my Tasker folder on the SD card. Create more subfolders in there for your icons (I have folders based on themes and a "Misc" folder for individual icons I pick up).

Looks like this: /sdcard/Tasker/.icn/iconfoldername

In this case you just click on whichever individual icon you want which takes you to the image view, then right click "save image as" and save it to an icon folder. When you try to assign an icon in Tasker, it will display the icon folders you have created. You can then select your icon.

Hope this helps! :)

Does anyone know how to make the camera button work to mute/unmute the phone if you are in a call? I'd love to not have to pull the phone away from my ear each time to do that.

Definitely a learning curve with this application, but downloading and modifying some of the helpful profiles/tasks others have created REALLY aids in training. I can't believe all that is possible with this application. Excellent app...well WELL worth the money and more.

Thanks for your help!

Daweav, Uncle Mike;

Thanks for the awesome tips! Just knowing the logic behind doing it helps a lot, I'll give it a go and see if I can get something working like Daweav's set up

I have something similar, and it took me 2 profiles to do it the way I wanted. I have media volume at 0 by default. Here is what I have:

Profile1: Detect Headphones
Context: State > Headset Plugged
Task: Set Variable %HPHONE ~ 1
Exit task: Clear Variable %HPHONE

Profile 2: Music App
Context: App > Whatever Music App you want
Task:
If %HPHONE ~ 1
Set Media Vol (desired volume for when headphones are in)
If %HPHONE /= 1
Set Media Vol (higher volume for using phone speaker)

For your second question, you can probably add something to Profile 2 above to make that work. It depends what you want. You just don't want the sound of the notifications? Set the notification volume to 0.

Not sure if this helps, from the Tasker website. Didn't try it myself...

Home Screen Intent

Tasker's Go Home action can specify the page of the home screen which should be shown. To support this action, a home screen need only accept the extra

net.dinglisch.android.tasker.extras.HOME_PAGE
with the launch intent, the value being an integer from 1 to 20.

Hey I need some help being that Im new to Tasker. I want to turn my phone on silent when I plug in my charger at night but let certain contacts turn the volume up when they call...any help would be greatly appreciated
