Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

Hello Friends

I was looking at some solution to browse offline maps for navigation.


So what method do you all suggest? Caching map tiles or using some other softwares like Mapdroid but Mapdroid doesnt have navigation feature.

Also what method do you guys use?

Using adw now... Launcher pro wouldn't let me resize my widgets (pro version only).. Apparently the dev is building a new version for launcher pro from the ground up...lets wait and watch as to what features are implemented...

On a side note, I found apps organizer to be incredibly useful.. Also I would recommend trying out tweetdeck which is in the beta stage... Very clean and easy to use

the problem with offline navigation in india is the lack of very reliable data.

anyway, you can go through the hoops for rmaps. seems to work...
 
Hi guys i am new to this thread, and it looks very helpful.

i bought galaxy S from DUbai Airport while i was going to India last month. the shop guys have set up the samsung app store which i didnt noticed. it looks like they have set up the samsung app store with region or country as UAE i guess, because when i go to samsung apps it is showing only few apps but 90% of them looks like related to teh region and islam religion.

i can see apps like
bayan
al sebha
zakaty
tazkerah
hajj_and_umra
al sunna
prayer times
hijri calendar
quran
etc apart from those i can see

blinkx beat
this day in history
dict

radio companion etc

Can any one know how to change it to show the samsung apps for india.

also can anybody list the apps available inside samsung apps in india.

Type *#1234# and let us know what you get... Phone , pda and csc. Have you tried installing kies ? see if there is any update for firmware.

PHONE: I9000JXJF3
CSC: I9000OJPJG1

The list of apps listed by you looks interesting and i am getting more worried....lol

Check out the link below , cos I think you may have to change your firmware...

JPJG1 is an arabic firmware. That's why all those apps are showing up :). There's nothing bad in particular about having an arabic/other firmware installed though, except you may have to flash the last official Indian release before getting a Froyo update through Kies :)

The last official Indian firmware release was DDJG4 I suppose. You can download it from here. Make sure you go through the entire thread doctorxerxes has linked you to before flashing new firmwares and stuff. Good luck :)

Mate thanks for sharing that article, the statement made by you is wonderful, Glad to know you from this forum :)

Cant guys like you approach Samsung officials and get these problems of their gr8 flagship phones and get their asses to fix them...I am sure if ppl like you escalates this issue to samsung, they gonna have to listen and fix them.

I would like to recommend the Kalpik's article to everyone here, its interesting pls spare some time and read ...

Thanks for the encouraging words guys! I am in touch with a Samsung person, and I told him about the lag, rfs etc.. He said they are working on it.. Guess its time to drop a reminder email :)
