I used to use the Calendar that came with LauncherPro Plus but since I have stopped using LauncherPro Plus I have found a much better option:

Pure Grid Calendar Widget is the best I have found yet, syncs perfectly with all three of my Google Calendars:

Trust me if I could I would love to. This calendar is such a pain. I use only my handheld to book while on the phone with a client....never the computer, so I need just a few things to make scheduling fast and easy.
1-the day view only shows hour time slots and if you are booking in 15-3o min appointments this is not an effcient way to book or view your day.
2-The repeat appt option is 100% usless, so for my clients that come every 2 weeks same day and time I have to enter by hand.
3-I want to change my default to 30 min time slots, gmail calender and no alarm so I don not have to do this for every appt I make all day long.
These are simple basic things a calendar should have and the only reason I even have a smart phone is to make my life easier day to day and this calendar is not.

Why not just press MENU and then click ADD APPOINTMENT? Then it doesn't matter what day you're on, you just add it wherever you want it.

I think pure grid does not work on cognition 2.2 beta (froyo android 2.2).

The widget will load bit no appointment data is listed.

I am using Agenda Widget and it does a really nice job as it merges both calendars (Google calendar, Droid Corporate Calendar, HTC Calendar, Google Calendar API 2.2+, LG Calendars, Touchdown Exchange) and tasks (Astrid, Dato Gtasks, SSI gTask Touchdown Tasks). There is a lot of widget size you can choose from and it is highly customizable. I do think it's best, and free!

Thanks for the suggestion but Im not sure if you read through my post???
If I were to book my day by your suggestion I would be double and triple booked. This method doesnt show what times are actually available in my day...nor does it help with repeat appointment booking. I also should be able to customize my default to my preferences and not have to manually change it every time I book.

The customizations you're describing are more along the lines of an aftermarket appointment system, such as Appointment Plus, GenBook, MindBodyOnline, etc. These require the browser to access, although some of them have iphone apps. Not sure about Android apps just yet, but again, easy to book through the phones browser.

What do you do? Are you in wellness? I run a small call-center that does scheduling for all sorts of small businesses (wellness, mobile technicians, professional firms, etc) so I've played with a lot of different calendar systems.

Good guess :) I do brow shaping so I guess its similar for scheduling. I dont have a desktop at work so all my scheduling is done from my handheld while Im on the phone with them. I will look at the ones you suggested and see if I can find one that will work better for me. I feel like these are simple customizations that a calendar should have. But I guess the people designing the calendars dont think so. I still think its odd that the calendars of our old palms were that much advanced over these droid candendars

phateless...I just reread your suggestions...I guess I cant use these either because I wouldnt have browser access while on a call :(
mindbodyonline looks like a great online booking system.

What we need is Datebk6 for Android, and CESD is working on it - but it'll be Pimlical on Android. I can't wait until it's ready - I use my datebook scheduler heavily for booking my Pilates clients, I can't leave the Palm world behind until this gaping gap is filled.

I use Touch Calendar and Blik Calendar. Blik because I like the "visualness" of the calendar. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Touch Calendar because I need the whole month view. I don't need to see it as a widget. I just keep it under my Blick calendar widget on my homescreen.

Gemini Calendar has saved my EVO...
The stock calendar since 2.2 update won't let ya go back into a calendar event that you've edited previously and edit again. Each time you go back into it the date you previously entered under description is gone!

Gemini fixed it!

Hi guys,

After Pure calendar and Pure grid calendar, here is my idea for the next app : Pure Reminder for calendars !

Features would be :
- compatible with Google calendars, Moto/LG/Samsung Exchange calendars, TouchDown calendars
- allow to select repeat notification patterns for any/all calendars (start to nag x minutes before, during x minutes, at x minutes interval)
- allow to select different ringtone for each calendar
- a snooze feature to report the notification
- a notification popup to nag the user
- force phone volum for loud reminders
- turn off reminders during meetings (based on a calendar selection)

I hope you like the idea. I know many of those points have already been discussed here... most ideas came from your needs :)

If you have any other idea, please, let me know on the blog (Idea for new app: Pure Reminder for calendars Android 'Pure' widgets series (calendar)) or here.

Not too off topic, but I am looking for a feature that will allow me to share an Outlook Calendar with many users on different platforms, including Android.

Outlook can save a calendar in a universal calendar file format called .ics (iCal).

I have an iCal .ics calendar file that I would like to view as a calendar through my Droid. The .ics file is stored on our web site and is accessed via http://

The popular way to view such a file is to subscribe to the .ics file via the web-based Google Calendar.

Unfortunately, there is a well publisized problem where the Google Calendar only refreshes the file automatically after at least one or more days. To summarize, when the .ics file is overwritten with a new version on the server, Google Calender can take about a day to display the new .ics calendar file contents. The manual refresh in Google Calendar does not work either.

See these links for details on the issue:

http://groups.google.com/group/googl...23e9878465c45f

and

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Calendar/thread?tid=024cd649a7113a44&hl=en

Microsoft web-based calendars have a similar issue (I tried them). The only calendar app that I have found to work is the desktop-based Windows Calendar.

Some not to graceful workarounds for this issue include commercial products such as Companion Link.

Anyone know of a Droid Calendar App that can read and display an iCal (Outlook genrated) .ics calendar directly via http:// ?

Thanks,

Stefan

Sorry if this was addressed earlier but im looking for a calendar app that can quickly add notices for the whole day, not at a certain time. if i have homework due tomorrow, id like to be able to just open it up, add the homework and be done, not have to choose a time and all that.

For this, you might want to consider a Task manager such as gTasks or Astrid (there are a great many others). gTasks uses Google Tasks, so you will be synced to all clients (PCs and phones).

Are there still no calendar apps for Android that can sync to an external CalDAV (non Google) calendar?

This is absolutely essential for corporate use, and something the iPhone has had from day 1.

I just wish Google would release the source code to the default Calendar app, so I could hack it in myself. I just don't have the time to implement a fully working calendar from scratch...

Check out if bedework could work for you - it's an opensource app that does caldav sync - and there seems to be some attempts to integrate w/android

yeah but i wanna be able to set it to a date, and view it like a calander. i want a calendar that i can just click on and add something quickly

I use a combination of Android Agenda Widget (has a lot of sizes) and Calwidget. 4x1 Calwidget on my home screen which shows just today's events. And then scrollable AAW on second page with all my events. Works like a charm.

This is an interesteing thread for me, but I still can't find what I need. I have Jorte and its good but the fundamental problem is the integration of tasks into a calendar. Outlook 2007 is very close to getting this right, but still does not allow tasks to be scheduled by time as well as date, just like appointments. There was a great little app for Palm that allowed you to do this, but even Outlook is missing this vital detail that means you can finally ditch a paper organiser. The problem is that the task manager in google mail is pretty lame, the interface is poor, and the sync with Jorte / GT task is a bit hit and miss. With Jorte you can only view one task list (work, mobile, personal, default) etc with no option for all.
For any developers reading, then for me the ideal calendar for business use therefore should have the following features:
- sync with google and/or Outlook (you can sync google and outlook from your PC)
- Set tasks with a start and end time (Outlook does a start and end date only)
- Show tasks in the daily calendar along with events, appointments etc.
- Swap between calendar and agenda views
- A widget 4x2 to sit on the home page showing upcoming events (events AND tasks)

In fact the last feature would be great even without task time stamping - still haven't found one that will do this.

I'm having the same issue, but Jorte is what seems to work the best. I like that I can choose from a lot of widgets. The full calendar is somewhat ugly, however, even with being able to choose color theme.

I've only been using it for a few days, but so far Jorte has best met my needs.

I'm a new android user and I'm trying to figure out how I can add a louder alarm or ringing tone to the standard calendar in my Samsung Vibrant. Help? Thanks :o.

Has anyone done sufficient research to be able to say which of the calendars discussed on this thread support the 24-hour clock? I thought I had finally settled on Jorte, only to discover to my dismay that it only works in the 12-hour system. This is a major step backwards for me and one which I would really like to avoid.

I've been using iRT Calendar for some time now and I'm as pleased as I'm going to be without Agendus. It supports 24-hr format. Also allows you to apply an icon, which I find helpful at a glance. Could use more icons, but it's a start.

Gemini supports 24 hour format. Really I find it the best overall especially if you use a 3rd party widget like the Pure ones, it gets updated frequently and the developer participates in these forums as well. It deserves serious consideration.
