Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

Hi All

Just bought a SGS and I am loving it :) . However to reiterate a long standing complain that 'Kies' is the buggiest software I have ever seen must be a understatement.

Now the latest issue I am having is that it has been updating itself to the latest version for over 3-4 hours and it is stuck at downloading the last file

SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe.cab

and the data transfer is being shown as 625339/75167 !!! How can it download more than the entire size of the update ?!!! Somebody care to enlighten me :)
 
yea the same happened for me. seems like a bug in kies whn u try to update the old to the new version. simple fix, just download the standalone newer version without updating. visit the samsung site.

Can someone help how to upgrade the phone firmware using Kies without messing the contacts (lost my contacts during my last update). Thanks!

got my sgs yesterday. I need help from all of you regarding GPS as of now,

1) Which sw r using for navigation & gps ?
2) how to check gps satellite status ?
3) How to view digital compass ?

1) use google maps and bruts mod goole maps (google it) for navigation
2) search gps test app from market
3) search compass app from market
 
1. For navigation and basic GPS, I use Brut Google Maps, you can find it in the Android market. The plain Google maps don't seem to work for me. Even the Brut is pretty temperamental, sometimes takes ages to pick a satellite, other times picks up location pretty fast. I'm in bangalore.
2. To check GPS satellite status, I use the app GPS Test.
3. Don't have this.

I need some help with the SGS..its an awsome phone overall but I've faced a couple of nagging bugs...please let me know if these are common to all and how to resolve them...

1) Music Player doesnt get killed when you close it...have to kill it from Task manager...also it keeps popping up randomly in the background for e.g. even if I'm done playing FM Radio and close it, the Music Player (not FM Radio) is showing in the Task Manager as Active !

2) If I view an SMS in the notifications bar, the Sender name is sometimes entirely different than the actual sender...fo eg it shows "ABC" in the notification bar..and when you click on it you find that the SMS is from another sender "XYZ". Is this a bug ?

3) Is the glass really scratch proof ? Or will a scratch guard help ?

4) How much data would an "always on" Gtalk consume ?

i want to install official froyo i have disabled the voodoo lag fix on my rooted phone.my firmware is jg4 and kernel in 2.6.29 curio@carton#voodoo lagfix.if i update my firmware thru kies will my kernel revert to stock kernel or whether i have to first flash stock jg4 using odin then upgrade thru kies please help

Hi

Thanks for the tip however when I open the indian samsung website, the updated date for kies software is shown as Oct15 2010

Would it make sense for me to download kies from other countries website (say UK) where the latest version might be available OR it will cause some problem due to the country difference. Any thoughts?

Froyo has started to roll out from November 5th.

Update: The press release has confirmed it; Nordic regions first, then “gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and rest of the world.”
 
for the latest kies software, go to samsung website and then go to support
ckick mobile link and choose the phone and download the kies latest software.

Hey guys...i've noticed the same thing as well. Did anyone else notice the same issue?? Any reason y it happens??
 
I am having a problem with the i9000.
1. MTP error when i try to connect to the kies software and usb keeps connecting but never connects.
2.Could not make the GPRS work with Airtel 98 data plan.

Getting nuts with this phone...some one pls help me..pls!

Am pretty sure that the above solution works when USB doesn't connect but just keeps flashing, like USB connects disconnects so on.

2. Am not on Airtel. It probably has to do with your APN settings.
 
So to question again, who is the source for Froyo to be out on Thursday? My Kies has been updated but with regards to Froyo... no cigar... cant wait though... i guess its better to wait for the official Indian release than to go Odin-style....
 
My first one here....hello all....
Got a new update for kies few minutes ago....Samsung has been updating kies like crazy I've got 2 updates in 2 weeks.....is this normal? or are we going to meet the Thursday deadline mentioned above?

Flashing through KIES is just as dangerous as flashing via ODIN, as many unfortunate souls have discovered.

Btw, Doc said that Kalpik is temporarily leaving the ROM project, so don't keep your hopes too high up for a rapid release.
