Hi all... I am new here and so don't quiet know where to post. So i thought this thread well might be it. I have a problem regarding kies. I even tried downloading the latest version and installing , but this also did not solve my issue. The issue is that Kies does not allow my phone to get connected, the phone screen shows connecting to kies and remains like that. After a while if and when i dis-connect the phone from my PC, the PC suddenly looses all power and goes off. Doesn't even shutdown properly, just off, like as if it was on a power plug without UPS, and the power went.

I wanted to check if the new froyo update is available yet, but due to this problem, i am not able to connect to PC last 2 months. Initially kies used to recognize my phone but this problem of switching off persisted from day one. Please help.

Also pls advice how to backup my phone data as i am not able to connect to PC. Can i back up the whole thing onto a memory card? Thanks a lot.

Hey, so my phone is out of the box sim free and no carrier locks.... for me, would it be fine to go ahead using ODIN? Is there no so called "legal" way of flashing the latest firmware? I just came out of the iPhone bondage recently so still learning the ways of the Android....
 
After a long wait, finally decided to go for a month-old Samsung Galaxy S (for Rs 22.5k )

... It feels very fragile, so looking for a good cover ? (Ebay india has ScratchGard, and SoftJacket 2 Xpose case listed, so thinking of buying that).

Immediately rooted (after checking that 3-button combo was working) and applied the OCLF.(I was surprised that the entire process was so easy !!!) Works quite well now. But, when using Astro, to install apps. (I downloaded a few GB's android app collection), it becomes very slow while scrolling in the apps collection folder. Any idea how to fix that?

I found the default music player(for now, haven't fully used it) to be quite uninteresting. (I prefer playing via folders, plus the music player detected lots of junk ringtones which I had copied to the player). Which music player (or music+video player,like Meridian) would you guys recommend? (There are so many ...Right now, have installed Rockplayer and mVideoPlayer)

The video player was quite good. But, couldn't find the mosaic feature. (found in Wave). Is it not available?

Regarding the SMS, I found the default app to be really good. I'd love to know why people use ChompSMS or Handcent?


Also,regarding the Brut Maps. I uninstalled the Google Maps (via Titanium Backup). But, still not able to install
the default Brut Maps.. Any ideas how to install it?

If there is anyone using Brut Maps for offline navigation,could you please let me know how to do that optimally using the Atlas Creator (the one Brut recommends, in a space efficient manner, for eg. which all levels to take the tiles of etc?. For eg, an offline map to navigate all of Maharashtra at level 19 , I presume would run into tons of GB ??)

Also, is anyone using SetCPU (was it useful in increasing the battery life?) .

I don't bother with official froyo anymore. Custom ROMs are way better.

1) I use Waze
2) I use GPS Test by Chartcross Ltd. It's on the market
3) Download "Compass" app. There's an option in the menu.

I have a question. I lost my usb cable. Do you guys think it will be available in samsung repair centre?

A micro usb to USB cable would have exactly 1 shape only. If yours are of different shape then they are not Micro USB's. In that case you can buy any micro usb cable from market and it should work fine. The cable might be available at the samsung centre but I wont be surprised if they charge ridiculous amount for that.

Yes even I face the same problem, I suppose its a software bug in the phone (like other thousands of software bugs in the phone). I think Samsung has really messed up this great piece of hardware with their version of android.

I too preferred the native app, but then i tried Handcent and it had many more features than the default one.
It allowed me to password protect messages, popups, custom notification icons, custom backgrounds and themes, Handcent SMS library and what not ...

Also in the default app, any message that exceeds three message length gets converted to MMS, so forwarding long messages annoyed me a lot...

But in Handcent u get to customize almost everything... Isn't that wat Android's all about?? Freedom...
 
Guys,

How do we activate call summary feature in SGS ????Plus whenever i try to check my prepaid balance i get a message "USSD code running" but than nothing happens?? Any solution?

Thanks for replying. So, I guess for now, I'll stick to the default app. (So many customisations to do , that I'm confused!! ;) )

Indian Update is not delayed, update should hit India, Middle East and couple of other countries between 20th and end of the month.

before end of the November, all countries will get froyo update for sure.

i have posted the updates details in my previous post.

Just wanted to know whether the Gtalk application works on prepaid connections.
Will i be able to chat on Gtalk with my gmail contacts with a prepaid connection or should i have a postpaid connection???
