Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

1. Do I need to necessarily root my phone to install this app? I am quite afraid of making any OS level changes.

2. Can I not have this Brut Mod Google Maps in addition to the default Google Maps coming with the system? Having only one App probably requires Rooting and Titanium Backup, as you have said?

3. Please give me exact link to the Brut Mod Maps. File name downloaded by me is maps4.6.0.4686-brut.apk.

4. Regarding Youtube, I wish to clarify that the Eclair version on Galaxy S probably had some kind of dynamic adjustment of bandwidth (whereas now, it is HQ or non-HQ only). Earlier, when I used to play Youtube while walking on the road, it used to be a low resolution video but when I reached home and played same video in Wi-Fi, it was automatically HQ. What I am trying to claim is that the video used to have some kind of dynamic and automatic sensing of bandwidth available and it used to adjust resolution accordingly to play back video almost instantaneously with Edge connection also.

1. Rooting is just like flipping the light switch on. Download Z4Root by Ryanza in the market. It can be undone.

2. Please re-read what Hrithan2020 had said. He only one map app installed which is brut mod maps. You need to be rooted(can be done easily), download titanium backup from market(free). Titanium backup can be used to remove the official google maps.

Anyway, I have no problem having both official and brut mod maps installed in the system.

3. That's the one. If you want both official and brut mod maps, download the renamed-tagged one.

Yeah, just download the renamed-tagged version from this link, and try installing it.

If it doesn't work, try the renamed one. If both don't work, then you probably need to root the device. (which by the way is quite easy to do and can be undone..)..

Regarding that Youtube, it sounds cool. I have no idea, however regarding the method to get the functionality back.. Do let us know, if you find the method from somewhere ;)

Some very strange things happening with me ...

1. Kies do not recognize the FROYO update for my phone. It says the update available, but says the current firmware cannot be upgraded...

2. I downloaded JP6, and tried with ODIN ..ODIN recognizes my phone, the moment i press "START", ODIN crashes ... Please Help ...

I need FROYO desperately ... Someone please help ...

Somone please help ... ODIN keeps on crashing .. not sure whats going wrong .. Drivers and all are installed, ODIN recognizes my Phone .. moment i say "Start" it throws an unhandled exception ...

I have tested this out in WIN 7 64 bit and as well as WIN XP SP3 machines.. both the machines throws the same error ..

I was reading a thread on XDA and it seems the hardware of Nexus S is not exactly the same as I9000 Galaxy. For example the biggest problem can be that Nexus uses different memory that is INAND.

Is anyone able to download / use Pandora Radio app? I even tried scanning the QR code but I get the msg "The requested item could not be found". Is it not available for Indian market?

After using Froyo for this long ( A little over a Week I guess) Here are the list of issues that I face.

1) It keeps on crashing .. Sometimes for no reason whatsoever. a Little 'Vibrate.. Pause.. Pause.. Vibrate.. Vibrate'.. And it almost reboots itself.
2) I am having strange issues with the EDGE. I am on Airtel 2 GB plan. Had no issues on Eclair. However with Froyo i keep on getting web page unavailable message. I have to go in Network Data settings and Uncheck.. and Check it to get it working again. STRANGE..
3) Launcher Pro is kinda slow on Froyo.. so today i am back on TW Launcher. Will use it and see hw this goes.
4) Initially the phone felt very zippy for a few days. However lately i have been experiencing lag. Again.. The Apps do open pretty quickly however there is lag in Contacts, Contact Search, Logs, And "Sweep Right To Call" options. Pretty frustrating. I feel this might go away wid the TW Launcher change.

Any help on the Crashing issue is welcome.

1) Try doing a factory reset, wipe data & format internal SD card once. It takes hardly a few secs, you lose all your apps, but you can download them again. Make sure you keep your data on the cloud (google, evernote, etc.) else back them up.

2) I've had the same issue a couple of times, doesn't happen very often for me & 2G speeds suck anyhow, I'm using WiFi most of the time.

3) Try using Zeam launcher, not as featured as LauncherPro, but quite fast.

4) Check the apps you are installing, some of them may use your phone resources without your knowledge. Once I downloaded a game that was hogging my sensor usage even when it wasn't running, causing my battery life to go down heavily.

That's what happens when you use official firmware update from Samsung because it still uses a bad RFS filesystem. Try One Click Lag Fix (OCLF by RyanZa). It is very easy to do, just download the app from market. It is not a true fix but it can make your phone fly.

hey, looks like google voice is now available in India (not sure if this is old news), has anyone tried it out? how is the billing done?

Its exactly the same hardware as Galaxy S.. Expect Gingerbread ports for Galaxy S soon ;)

will be definitely looking for the same from experts like you.

the video of nexus S looks very promissing on fastness. and heard it has a better power/battery management system which will give more battery life.

saw in one forum, nexus S has differnet kind of memory, and it dont have SD card slot, it has 4 keys etc... so it will be difficult to port to SGS.

hope these are rubbish and we will get a good cooked rom.

cheers
