Cool. What are some of the best features of GDE? I added a poll to the thread.

For me it was the themes available and the xRom theme especially. I also like the usability of up to 7 screens, even though atm I only use 3.

I tried Home++ and just didn't care for the scrolling thing at the bottom. I am very OCD I guess you can say. I am constantly adjusting icons and where there are and how they look and just the overall flow of the layout as I find the ones I use more then others and what hand position they are in.

A soon as I figure out how to take some screen shots of the layout I will LOL!

Awesome. Coming from a blackberry having all this freedom is nuts. So I am researching my next change, the home screen.

Yeah I here you I still have an 8330 for my work phone (company pays :) ) but this thing is freaking fantastic so far.

I actually find that the default home screen works for me. I really dont need any of the features the home apps offer. I was wanting one that leave the default home running, and just adds more screens, but I dont see that happening.

I was using PandaHome but it was slowing everything WAY down. It'd sometimes take a full ten seconds to go from an app back to the home screen. I really liked having the tabs on the sides of the home screen, but I couldn't deal with the lag anymore.

Ok here are the 3 desktops I have currently, and how I have them laid out. I have it set to 3 home with number 2 as the default. Then I can go to left for maintenance stuff and right for app fun stuff lol!

It is however constantly changing until I find a setup I am completely comfortable with.

Comparing to the default home screen do you notice any slowdown using GDE? I wanna try some of this stuff but what bother me more then anything is stuff that slow it down. I like the phone because its very snappy. I am still in a very heavy debate with the default sms app vs handcent because of speed. I feel like ill be going back to default soon because it feels slower with handcent.

Thanks for posting your pictures!

I don't have any issues with slow down at all. I use the default sms, for me its perfect. I am like you in that I love how snappy this phone is and I hate it when anything starts to slow it down.

I'm using dxTop. It gets laggy on occasion and I have had force closes, but I haven't really had any problems since the last update a few days ago. The killer feature for me is the app drawer categorization. Today's update just made the category bars a bit larger on the droid so they're easier to tap (this pic has the old size)

Also the long-press & drop menu functions are nice and the 4 direction homescreen layout is clever so you can get to any of your home screens with 1 swipe instead of having to flip past 2 other home screens to get to the one you want. This limits you to 4 home screens, but that's plenty for me.

I'm using Fresh Face. I really only wanted it for the extra home screens (I'm using 7). It can also use most themes. I know some people say they've had trouble with it, but it's never FCed on me, and my phone runs just find, nice and smooth, like creamy peanut butter.

LOL. Love the analogy.

GDE and Home++ suit me best, currently on GDE as was getting FC on Home++ after 2.01 updated.

Both are really good, IMHO, can't go wrong w/either. For some reason I never liked dxtop's up/down/left/right metaphor, so I'm not using that one any more...

I'm using Panda Home and like it so far. I really just wanted extra screens but I like some of the other features as well.

Home++ got my vote. With the stuff coming down the pipeline, it's the only home replacement I'm using. Worth every penny I've donated!

I used to use OH, but it FCed way to much. Also, it made my phone lag a ton.

It's been a while since I have used it. How's the stability of it now?

It does FC occasionally but not too much to bother me. I've never had issues with lag though; its quick to switch between desktops and open the menu etc.

I wish someone would make a home app that has all of the options each home replacement has and bundle them together. Maybe if I ever get enough spare time I'll write my own :)
