Help Phone is deleting data after reboot

Hi,

I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Apollo I5800 from 2.1 to 2.2 firmware which I got from samfirmware.com. It didn't work so I re-installed 2.1 back. But now after reboot my data isn't saving when I'm back logged in. Booting takes too long (maybe 2 minutes) and everything seems to reset.

I need help as quick as possible.

Hey RyDeR, if I were you I would do the following:

- Factory/Hard reset your phone to defaults.
- Boot into the recovery partition by pressing vol+ + vol- + home + power, then wipe the cache partition

Then install the firmware from this location:
[CUSTOM] I5800XXJPB prerooted/light - xda-developers

I just installed this last night, and it's Froyo for our galaxy 3's. The maker also released this lagfix which makes your phone run extremely fast:
I5800 Lagfix V2 ! - xda-developers

Follow the steps on the lagfix posting exactly. You'll notice that your available memory goes down to 40mb or so, but don't worry, you can still install applications with ease, and even though I've installed 20 or so programs, I still seem to have 40mb available left. Also, since it's Froyo, you can move programs to the SD card if you ever run out of room.

Try this out and let me know how it works for you!

Well just one last (I think) question. Is my phone now saving data because of this edited version of this firmware or because I did wipe cache like you said?
I really like to know this. Because when a more recent version of Froyo will release I'd like to keep update my phone without this problem again of long time booting and loosing all data and apps after booting.

I'm waiting for your useful answer.

barqers: thanks for posting, can you also post how to back up existing firmware,
before installing the one you posted.

This way myself and other users would be able to revert in-case something goes wrong.
 
Hello RyDeR, I think that the last firmware you had installed had a glitch in the coding. I think this because it happened to me before, but I had no idea how what firmware version I installed to cause this program. In the future, if a newer firmware gets released for our phone just make sure you backup your contacts by going into contacts -> menu -> export to sd card. And you can backup your Apps using titanium backup. But future firmware should not give you this problem anymore! I'm glad this solved your problem :D

Also, just note that you should backup all your apps+data, then factory/hard reset your phone before installing new firmware, as sometimes new firmware can leave files in phone memory that could conflict with the new firmware when you start using it.

As for backing up your firmware, I don't know of a way to do this as of yet. Sorry. The only thing I know how to do right now is to use titanium backup to backup system configurations and programs, and backup your contacts by exporting them to the SD card. I hope this helps! Just make sure you're ready to take the plunge before installing new firmware, but trust me, the firmware I posted has by phone running a lot faster than before.

I got a Quadrant score of 550 on my phone versus around 440 on the old firmware. So it's a decent increase!

EDIT: Let me give a short tutorial for all Samsung Galaxy Apollo (I5800) users who wants to install firmware version 2.2 (FroYo). (All credits goes to barqers). This is what I did:

1) Backup everything you need. (e.g. contacts, applications, ...)
2) Do a hard reset. (*2767*3855# in dialpad) And let your phone boot up.
3) When it's booted up, just shut down your GSM.
4) Now wipe your cache partition. (Press volume up + volume down + start key (middle button) + power on/off key and keep holding them till a screen appears. When you see the screen use volume down and up to select Wipe cache partition and wait till it's done)
5) When it's done shut down your phone again.
6) Download flash program (odin) and this FroYo 2.2 image. And make the program ready.
7) Connect your phone to your computer and start your phone. From the time you see odin Com port is yellow press the start button.
8) Let odin install the OS, don't remove USB till it says "PASS".
9) That's it. How fun with your FroYo on your Apollo (I5800)
