Help tab 10.1 will not turn on :/

rytheguy

Lurker
Used my new tab last thing before going to bed last night. Wake up today, and it won't power on. Tried plugging in charger and to computer to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

I would leave it on the charger for a couple of hours, then try to power it up. If you started using it right away without getting it fully charged, it may have just run out overnight while you were sleeping.

I am very concerned it was fully charged last night, left on the desktop dock all night, but not plugged in and screen off.

I am having the same issue my battery was at 50 percent just a few hours ago and it is not turning on any

I have been using the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for under one month and this morning I went to power it up and BOOM it did not power up.

Is this what I should expect from Samsung, this device sucks and cost over $600.

Have tried all of the above steps holding down power button, volume button, blah blah blah.

Do not buy this device it sucks and now I have to waste my time and return/exchange for a new tablet.

Hmm. Just had this actually happen to me. I had it on the charger the past couple hours (was at 70% when I plugged it in) so I know it wasn't a battery issue. Tried the power+screen touch and it booted up. Weird.

The power button is pretty sensitive. I had this happen to me as well. The natural thing to do is keep holding the power button down or keep cycling the power button. Don't do that. Hold the power down for 2 to 3 seconds and then wait a few seconds. It will come on. It happened to me and what I realized was that while it may have been powering up, I may foolishly powered it down.

Try this:. Press and hold both power and volume down buttons for 5 seconds, then release vol. down button while holding down power button for another 5 seconds, before releasing. This should reset the tab, and it should boot normally.

thanks it worked for me

Plugged it in last night to let it charge over night. Everything was working fine as always, no problems at all. I wake up this morning and nothing is happening. Screen will not come on at all. I can't tell if it's just being unresponsive or if it's turned off. Anyone have any advice?

Are you using a case like the original Samsung folding case? If so, the case is too tight and it turns off the device whenever it's closed...I returned such a case due to it turning off my tablet.

If it's just turned off, press and hold the Power button for several seconds until the device boots up with the initial logo screen.

It may just look like that, press and hold the power button for a few second until you see the Samsung logo.

Yup. I had the same thing happen and got scared. But I think in my worry I had hit the power button multiple times and was basically turning it o and back off. Unplug it, and just hold the power button down once til it turns on.

Had this happen to me this morning. Was ready to send it to Samsung....then found this post. Worked like a charm. Thanks. :)

Thanks for the comment about the case. I thought I was going mad when it occasionally turned itself back on. Happened when taking off a few flights ago.

This worked for me. Thank you so much for your post. I have such bad luck with things and this is the only thing that has been working for me with no problems for the past two weeks. I had another tab for about 2 weeks and someone broke in my house and stole it. Thank you for giving me back my Tab :)

Wow - very good information in this thread. I have had ALL the above problems. It turns out that mostly I've been holding the power button down too long. LOL. No longer do that thanks to the above, I just pressed it for 2 seconds, then waited and in 2 more seconds it booted.

Samsung should have a splash screen or a placard on the back for this! The tablet isn't very intuitive, and over time, I'm finding that it's excellent, but needs to be properly set up and understood.

Very important about the case though, being a software developer I don't think about physical things and i've had to put the tablet in upside down into the leather case I have. NOTHING should touch the power buttons - that will dissipate your battery each time and you will not understand why or be none the wiser - very important tip.

Mine did the wont turn on thing today too...I did the power and touched screen at the same time, holding down like someone stated above, and in 20 second, it powered on. THANK YOU! I love this tablet...but that was frustrating!

NO. What you are describing is download mode, which is one of the steps in rooting these devices. Check the ~1:00 point in this video. With the newer Tab F/W, there is an intermediate warning screen before you see the little android guy shown in the video.

To factory reset, access recovery mode using the volume up button. Full instructions here:

My unit (and probably many of yours out there) has a power issue.

SAMSUNG - Acknowledge the power issue. Best Buy "Fixed it" or rather took it in upgraded the firmware to fix the power issue and sent it back with the same exact problem.

PROBLEM REPRODUCTION: You press the power button to turn on your unit for 2 or 3 seconds, nothing happens. Now plug in your charger. If you don't see the battery icon (the big green charging icon on the screen, then your tablet has the issue. You have to Hard start it by holding the power button down for 12 seconds. This will restart the unit. Then you will see that the battery icon comes up. Now you can do a normal start with instant on.

This problem happens in 10 min of non-use, in 20 min, in an hour, but it at some point always happens. The battery is still with power, but the unit constantly (most times) needs to be hard restarted rather than just coming right on.

I am going to contact Samsung for them to fix it this time (Best Buy isn't exactly competent or trustworthy on these issues - and for a store with sky high prices they aren't exactly rated highly on customer support or service).

If you have this problem - please feedback some info and lets get Samsung to fix this issue or do a recall. Best buy sure doesn't give a crap!
