Honeycomb update rolling out now for View

The Honeycomb (3.2.1) update for the View is making its way out now - Sprint EVO View 4G Updates. For those who want to keep their tablet stock, feel free to tap on over to the system update on your device, download, install, and enjoy. But for those who want root access, or who would like to see what kind of developer support starts popping up (now that the View has had several cheap sales over the past couple of weeks), it would be in your best interest to hold off on the update.

Globatron, who is one of the most active posters on XDA working on the View, said not to upgrade yet if you want root access/development support for now: WARNING to View Users - Read this before upgrading to HC

Hopefully a rootable version will be posted on XDA before too much longer. I'm really looking forward to the increased Scribe support that Honeycomb will bring. I'm not really looking forward to losing the capacitive buttons and having to use the buttons on screen (resulting in less screen real estate for actual usage), but hopefully we'll see an Ice Cream Sandwich update at some point that will bring back the capacitive buttons.

perfect timing, my evo is suppose to arrive in my mail today. in that picture you posted it says download via wifi or cable only. just for clarification, by cable they are talking about USB to pc right?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what they're referring to.
 
I am not so sure I want to install it even after S-Off fix will be found on XDA.
I like the hardware buttons and don't want to get rid of them and take valuable screen space with the software buttons.

My rooted View on custom ROM is extremely fast as it is.
2330 on Quadrant.

Can someone convince me that HC is necessary?

Well, there's no convincing really. If you want it, you do, if you don't want it, you don't. To me, the only downside to the Honeycomb upgrade is losing the capacitive buttons and having the menu bar onscreen. Besides that, everything else is a major improvement in my book. You get access to Honeycomb-only apps which are optimized for tablets (Gmail is fantastic for instance), the Scribe stylus can now be used just about universally (including navigation), the UI is more fluid and responsive, and there are several improvements all around since it's an OS that's designed for tablet use.

But of course there's nothing wrong with holding out hope for some official or unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich love that will combine the best of both.

Isn't there a way to disable the on screen buttons?
 
Can anyone talk about how the HC update looks and runs? Does Sense drag it down? I just got one from DailySteals last week when they were $230 and it gets here on Tuesday.

It doesn't drag it down at all. Sense is actually barely there. It looks and runs almost like stock Honeycomb. Mine lagged a bit on Gingerbread, but now it's incredibly smooth. Definitely a very good update in my opinion that adds a lot of much needed functionality through the Scribe stylus and access to Honeycomb only apps.
 
I just got home and the update was ready to download. I like it some things have changed for sure but very smooth.
 
Does anyone know how to expand the bottom icons in the notification tray? Because the clock is so large, I can't get all my notification icons to show. It's very limited and I hate it. :mad:

Also, is there a way to change the color of the clock, wifi and battery icon in the notification tray? This is one time I miss the green icons. It's very difficult for me to see the gray on black. I'm really not interested in rooting this thing, I have other phones for that but it seems like Google messed up the notification tray with this update.

I had to change the clock i have the same problem. And like you i'm trying to get the hang of the notification tray. I think that is not a google change but the HTC Sense add on.

Yes the damn IQ was not a fav of mine and many other users. I dont think I'm going to root. Things on mine are running very smooth. I have rooted all my phones and enjoy that but my tablet does not need to be rooted for right now. I'm waiting for a good ICS update for this tablet:rolleyes: The crazy part is HTC does not plan on updating the View as of right now that I can see. And ICS was made more for tablets then just phones. The updating is so messed up. Oh well

I'm right there along with you on the root thing. :) I just find the screen space in portrait mode...odd. There is so much space on the top/bottom and can't use it. I know HC is more for landscape mode, but I don't use it in that mode much. I'd like to see ICS too but since we just got this update, I won't hold my breath. lol. I'm going to do a little research today to find out about the notification bar and I'll report back if I find anything of interest.

Here's another question for ya...after doing a little research, it dawned on me that we don't have the HC lockscreen.

Also, after reading Sprint's release notes, we can now use our pen as a stylus. That is awesome in my book! :D

I think the lock screen is another part of the HTC sense part. If we were running a RAW or Google only ver of GB then it would be diff..

I think you are probably right. I saw a bunch of pictures from the Motorola Xoom and their notification bar icons, etc. are totally different. I wish HTC would give us full HC stuff. I hate the lockring. :rolleyes::p
 
Just to let everybody know one more time:
If you accept this OTA, you will not be able to root your view or go back to GB.

Most probably, EVER.
 
I did th HC update on the evo view that i bought for the gf.
seems pretty legit but im sure its way too advanced for her now, seeing as she was just getting used to GB.
Overall I liked it, made me a bit jealous because my Galaxy Tab isnt all that great.
