razr maxxx announced

To be honest the Maxx is the same phone as the razr aside from the extended battery so I would imagine all support should be the same between the two. Just My guess

can someone provide links to compare the Razr to the Maxxx? i have never heard of this device until now, and i wonder if its the same thing but just different

Arg...I was holding my breath for a full screen, HD display and better camera. This is kinda lame. Kinda makes me want to return the phone THAT much more. I dont want to own a phone that is already being replaced, LESS than a month after my purchase and less than 2 months after its released. I know technology is ALWAYS moving forward, but this is insane. Atleast with the Nexus, Ill know that Google will support it for longer than a month.

Then again, all we DO know is that the battery is larger. No one said anything about any other specs. Ill try to with hold any more judgment until I hear ALL the specs.

Some outlets are reporting the Maxx has 32GB internal, but the actual VZW release says 32GB total storage. Big difference.

Nothing to worry about unless you must have the larger battery. This is the same strategy Motorola used with the original Razr. Release a couple of different models to reach the largest consumer base. I am guessing that the phones released in China will be summer 2012 releases in the USA. I am guessing they will be the Droid Razr HD and Droid X3.

Phonedog is reporting that the Razr Maxx is 8.99mm thick and is sporting a 3300mAh battery. So the same thickness as the Galaxy Nexus with hot swap able micro SD card, and double the battery life. Might have to get me one of these.

yeah i really don't understand the logic in moto even doing this device. The whole allure of the RAZR was it's thinness....so you go and make one that is thicker? Come on motorola, Doesn't make sense to me.

I know the releasing of new devices every 6 days is kinda getting OLD. I remember buying a Droid 3 on release day what 6 months ago? and now the Droid 4 is coming out? A Razr maxx 2 months after the razr? Most people can't and won't upgrade at full retail. WTF did we pay the same price for a Razr when 2 months later a new Razr with double the battery life comes out? I think I'm gonna head back to the iPhone..

Good golly, you aren't suggesting Apple hasn't done the exact same thing? And now they are playing "Gotta be on 4S for Siri" games? What credibility do they have?

I'm actually glad the Maxxx isn't that big a deal. Bigger battery is nice, but thin phone is cool. Kind of tells me the Razr is somewhat future proof, if it can make it 6 monhs without be totally obsolesced. What is somewhat interesting is the Maxxx will launch with 2.3.5, not ICS. And, apparently the name has nothing to do with streaming pr0n, which you need a big batt for.

At least there isn't a new iPhone every couple months! And since the upgrade price on the Maxx is $299 one can only assume it will be the same as the Razr.

Not a huge iPhone fan but I'm also irritated at this kind of tactic (even though we see it in other industries all the time)

Yeah, not really the same thing. New iPhones have been released at least a YEAR after the previous version. And they don't just have bigger batteries. They are HUGE improvements over the model they replace.

Apple doing what Moto (and most other carriers do) would be releasing an iPhone 4S in October, releasing a new iPhone 4Sa in December with a bigger battery, releasing a new iPhone 4Sa+ in February with a faster processor, etc., etc.

The difference is that Moto makes their "flagship" or "iconic" phones obsolete a month after they are released. Just ask Droid Bionic buyers about that...

I think your definition of huge improvements and what mine is. Getting the ability to have an OTA update and notifications they don't disturb what you're doing isn't an improvement.

So this has nothing in common with the Maxx released in China that had a better screen and camera? Kinda lame.

They're probably saving that for the RAZR Maxx S+ that will come out in spring.

I think this phone is kind of embarrassing for Motorola and an insult to consumers. People bash on apple for pushing the iphone 4s on consumers when it still had a plethora of updates vs the iphone 4. Larger battery, dual core, upgraded camera, and coincided with an OS update. The razr maxx literally is no difference with the razr except for the battery. They could have at least released it with ics. Also, the fact that it isn't even out yet and isn't being launched with ics tells me that the droid razr won't be updated to ics soon. If they were going to release ics for the razr maxx within 2 or 3 weeks of launch, the would just delay it.

This is also bad for developers. Launching so many motorola phones won't allow the dev community to grow for each phone. How are the moto fanboy deveolopers going to settle into a phone? There was the bionic, the razr, and now the razr maxx and no time between for a dev community to grow.

I don't get all the up roar about this, its the same phone with a bigger battery. If anyone with a razr really cared about the battery I am pretty sure they would not have bought a razr since it is not user replaceable. I got it because i liked the design, and i am usually near a charger so the whole battery thing was not a big deal for me, plus i never would have switched to verizon if it were not for the amazon deal, i am not going to pay $300 for a phone and a contract. My guess for them releasing this is to get those people who do care about having a bigger battery and might have not considered the razr for lack of replaceable battery, that's it. Everything else is the same just thicker, so hopefully it will not effect development as both phones should be able to use the same roms, it just like if you put an extended battery on any other phone, you can still use the same roms that a phone using the stock battery can use. And for the bionic stuff, remember that it was supposed to come out iirc around april or june, it was delayed for a long time and that's why it came out so close with the Razr. Would you want them to then delay all future phones to not make them come out close to each other because one phone was delayed? would that make you feel better about your purchase?

I think you are confusing software (iOS updates) and hardware (iPhone updates). Exactly which iPhone iteration (3G, 3GS, 4, or 4S) only included the ability to have an OTA update and notifications that don't disturb what you are doing?

The RAZR MAXX, from what we've seen, is the RAZR with a bigger battery. That's it. And 2 months after the RAZR was released, not a year later.
