That's been a feature of Google maps for a long time.
 
Just started playing around with my GS3 that arrived today, and one of the neatest little touches is the slightly curved edges of the screen. It makes swiping to the edge a lot easier.

That may change when I get a case on the phone though.

The glass is really nice and I too love the curved edges.

I know all about Gorilla Glass. I've seen the videos, read the hype, have experience with several phones that have it. And I have also read of quite a few accounts of people getting scratches on the Gorilla Glass equipped phone. This has been discussed at length and it's an absolute FACT that there are relatively common elements that will and does scratch it. Sand is the primary example. It's harder than GG and even just a few grains in your pocket can scratch it. The videos you've seen where people are abusing the GG with knives, pens, etc. are misleading because those items are made of materials softer than the GG. It's surprising that you're a "Senior Member" on this forum and have never seen this discussed before. Do whatever you want but when you advise people that they don't need a screen protector because of GG then you are giving false information. Lots of people get away with not using a screen protector on GG but quite a few have found out the hard way that it doesn't protect from everything. Good luck with that.

I hear ya. I got the Zagg HD screen protector but have not put it on yet. Hate to lose any of the screen greatness, but I guess better safe than sorry.
 
Hey guys, one other cool feature I've found is say you are in a full screen mode( say playing a game) drag your right side of the screen( not on landscape) and notification bar will appear :) so its very useful
 
I agree with LunchBB about using a screen protector. I always had a screen protector on my DX but I found that I was always having to go to the Zagg store to get it replaced because it kept peeling off in one place or another. It was always free except for the $5 to have them put it on. I'm learning that a screen protector is more of a preference or safety net to help you feel better. However, screen durability has been addressed with GG. Can it get scratched? Yes, but only so slightly. With a screen protector you lose some of that smoothness which is really nice with a phone this nice, fast and responsive. I absolutely love the curve of the glass on the edges. The phone just feels soooo nice in your hands and it feels great to slide your fingers over the glass with absolutely NO drag whatsoever. I've decided to not put on a screen protector. I did do a minimal hard plastic case that, when the phone is face down, keeps the glass off the table.

Screen protectors are a personal preference and I've come to realize that, while they do offer a level of protection, there are sacrifices that come with it. Sacrifices that I don't think are worth it. GG is plenty durable enough for our daily lives. Besides, I think you can buff out scratches in the glass. If I'm wrong on that would someone please correct me. And scratches from sand would be so minor you wouldn't see them with the glass that close to the actual screen that is producing the colors and light.

Eh, I've had my DX in my pocket daily for almost two years without a screen protector and haven't gotten a scratch yet.

But this is the wrong thread for the screen protector discussion.
 
At the end of the day, it all depends on how you take care if your gear. Even with gorilla glass, still have take care of it. Same thing for screen protector.

This "briefing" alarm is the coolest thing I've ever experienced on a phone (so far). Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

That said, a scratched screen of any type would drive me nuts.....

I put screen protectors on any 'touch' device I buy just because a screen protector is a lot easier to replace than a screen and personally don't find them intrusive (if you buy a good quality one).

In the end as long as people know the risks (e.g. Gorilla glass can be scratched), I could care less whether they use a protector or not (e.g. personal choice).

Apparently they do not have the software available for MAC on this allshare site. It started downloading an .exe file and mac's do not use .exe files.

How do you see the thumbnails of pics and music on your computer, allshare?

Is there a way to disable an alarm? On my EVO, I could set up multiple alarms and enable/disable them as I wanted to. I don't see any way to disable alarms. When I'm on vacation or a day off, I don't want to have to delete an entire alarm to keep it from going off.
 
I realized using voice to take photo is more gimmick than real practical use. It's cool to tell you friends you can say "smile" to take picture. But in real life, it happened several times the place is noisy. I keep saying "smile" and it won't fire the picture. I look like an idiot. My friend wonder does he really have to "smile" too in order for the camera to take that picture :/

C'mon....it's a phone - with a recorder waiting for your commands!!! If you're in a noisy enviroment, it stands to reason it's not going to make out your voice over all the other noises going on...but it's never let me down in normal enviroments so far!!!

If you're in a pub/club that's bangin'......take the pic as you would on any other (i)phone..... ;)

And by the way...(try SHOOT or CAPTURE....you might have more success...)
 
C'mon! I wasn't talking about extremely noisy environment like in a bar. I was wanting to show off this feature yesterday at a Mcdonald. I tried smile, capture and shoot. None will fire off the camera. It makes me look like an idiot. but when I tried it at home last night, of course it works.
