Im not even sure I have adb installed anymore? I was using WugFresh. I open the command prompt and type in "adb device" and it says adb is not recognized as internal or external
Wait, I'm not exactly sure you need ADB. This looks like perhaps a newer method?
Yeah, I think it's newer. The one I used was linked from Droid Life and the OP has asked for it to be deleted as it was a bit more complicated.
Ran into the same problem. Don't recall how I ended up fixing it. Give me a few, I have a long Hangout saved with Stigy.
Edit: Ah, I used Flashify.
Some folks claim it's really sketchy and may not work, but it was flawless for me. App is free and in Play. Are you on the latest OTA?
Trust me, it was really frustrating. Reboots, toggling USB debugging, unplugging from the PC and then plugging back in. I honestly don't remember what exactly made it work though.
Did you update ADB to have all the latest software?
Honestly, I'm kind of at a loss. Stigy really helped me a lot. You can try to PM him. Sounds like he's at the Jets game so doesn't have time right now.
If I would have scrolled down 3 flippin hours ago into the comments on theunlockr page on how to root the G2 I would have seen someone who said that you have to switch to Internet connection then pick Ethernet under USB connection method, for Verizon.
That's all I had to do.
I knew from the instructions this shouldn't have been that hard!!
Grrrrr
I went to Superuser and tried to update binaries and it says fail. What's up this now?
-never mind. installed SuperSU-
And busybox. Shouldn't that be an app now too? I feel like I never rooted before..
-installed busybox from playstore-
Oh woops! Forgot about that part. I thought it was right at the beginning of the instructions.
Trust me, outside of the pain of getting the drivers for my Gnex (before Wugs Toolkit was available), this was the hardest device to root. Glad you're on your way!
Two things, give Flashify a shot, and also, do not use the button combos to get into recovery. I've heard it causes bootloops, but Flashify can reboot recovery easily.
Backups take forever BTW because the stock ROM is around 2.5Gb!
My problem was that when I clicked on root.bat it was either stuck on 'looking for device' or a couple times I got something about daemon.
Here is how to fix that and get your G2 rooted.
Under part 2 in the link above, after step 3 in part 2 you want to go USB Connection Method and pick Internet then Ethernet and THEN plug it into your computer.
You have to do this again when it prompts you to unplug USB and disable then enable USB debugging. This would be after step 6 in part 3. Just like before, Internet then Ethernet then plug back in.
Bam! Rooted.
I can do a more detailed process but I think this should help?
