The Moto Maker Club!

It's here... still shows as un-shipped online, and FedEx managed to deliver it to the apartment building around the corner, but I've got it now :D
 
Ordered mine Monday at 5pm and got it Wed. I got all black with silver accents. My wife got all white with pinky purple accents. I was also really glad they had the personalized printing available too! Got my initials on mine and the kids initials on my wifes.

Also, just a heads up. The white has more of a hard shell feel to it. The black has a little more soft touch grip feel to it. My wife was a little disappointed so I called moto maker and they checked with the build team. Apparently the white has a finish on it that makes it more plastic hard like. It's still nice, but I definitely like the grip feel better that you'll get with the dark colors.

Can you post a close up pic of the silver accent on the black? I'm thinking about getting this same combination.

I have the developer edition and it has the white back. I got a case almost immediately, it's so dang slippery and I wanted a better grip. I really don't understand the different materials used based on color, truly seems odd to me.
 
I actually ended up skipping the developer version due to the color and price. Here's my phone I ordered yesterday. Any former DROID incredible owners here?

For some reason the skip left my cart before checkout and they wanted to charge me for it. I chatted with customer service and they said they would send one separately.

Interesting, I wonder if that has to do with the 3Dish illusion effect on the white woven ones. Does the black woven version have the same effect?

That said, my Moto X rolls naked, in all its awesome glory. :D
 
I'm really enjoying this phone. This is about the perfect size phone for me: good size screen that allows for reasonable typing and reading, but still extremely compact, thin and lightweight.

The active notifications are unexpectedly good. I've always loved the notification LED, especially multicolored LEDs using LightFlow to control the notifications. I thought Active Notifications would be a step down, but it's about a wash while the phone is sitting on the table, and is better in that the phone actively tries to display the information during situations where you want to see it (take the phone out of your pocket, pick it up off the table, etc.).

The blue/silver looks terrific, I can't praise Moto enough for the particular color choices they have in the Moto Maker. There are so many great combinations and unique color choices.

Two thumbs up so far!
 
I ordered mine last night and got an email this afternoon indicating it was being built. I opted for black/olive/solver in the 32GB model. I was really happy when I say that Verizon customers got an extra $50 off, making the price $99.99.

I had some trouble ordering. If anyone is on a verizon business account they may have the same trouble as I did. I could go to the motomaker website and build the phone but could not finish the process. After indicating the carrier and trying to sign into the account (I'm the point of contact and main administrator for our small business account so I have to appropriate permissions and login credentials) it would always fail. One the bottom of th epage it indicated "Activations powered by Best Buy", which I believe is the problem. Best Buy cannot process anything, at least last time I checked, on a Verizon business account.

I ended up chatting with motorola and then calling Verizon. The versizon CS reps found a SKU for the phone but couldn't tell me what color it was. This was due tot he fact that when they order you that SKU it simply sens you a PIN to use at motorola.com/us/designit (not motorola.com/us/motomaker) to design your phone. I believe this is why it did not indicate a color. The Verizon CS reps were helpful but none of them were familiar with the process of ordering the designit website PIN so it was a little confusing. All they see in their system is a SKU for the 32gb moto x. None of them were aware it just emails you a PIN to use to design and purchase the phone.

Once I got the PIN and went to the website I had a heck of a time processing the order. I was trying to do this through internet explorer instead of my chrome browser. I tried using ie instead of chrome as I was signed into my personal gmail account in ie and a work gmail based account on chrome. When I selected the option to have the google account already setup on the phone it would try to default to the work based account instead of the personal one, which I didn't want. Once I got the associated email address sorted out and used chrome to process the order it worked just fine.

Now the waiting game starts.
 
I swung by a Verizon corporate store to check out the "standard" backs and the woven white is definitely a little more slick than the woven black. The store had a display with a number of the colored backs you could see and touch. They didn't have all of the colors (I know the navy back was not in the display) but most of them. There are differences in the feel of the backs depending on which color it was. The darker colors tended to be softer more velvety feeling and the lighter colors were not as soft feeling. I don't want to say the lighter more pastel colors were slippery, just not as soft as the darker colors.
 
I will jump in here, I ordered my 32GB AT&T Moto X on the evening of September 24th (a Tuesday) and by evening I mean like 7-8 PM. I was given an expected delivery date of Monday the 30th. It arrived at 11:30 AM on Thursday the 26th. Less than 48 hour turn around. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I went pretty mild on the build - white front, black woven back with blue accents. It's been perfect. More than I could have ever expected, the feel of the phone in hand is exceptional, operates buttery smooth, truly an excellent device.

For those of you waiting on it. You will love it.
 
I ordered the Navy Blue and silver and it came today for Verizon.

It looks great, nice phone. I may have found a way to keep unlimited data too. I went through the motomaker site, and it let me keep my existing plan with the disclaimer I would lose it. When I got the phone I tried activating it on the web, and that is when they got me with the data plan no longer applicable to for this phone, please choose from a limited plan. So, I cancelled out of that, and took the sim card out of my droid razr, used a chisel to cut it to the shape of the nano sim that came with the moto x, turned it on and had data and phone service. My account still says unlimited. I wonder if this will stick, or if they will catch up to me at some point.
 
If you got the subsidy it will probably catch up to you. I bit the bullet and paid full price. It ends up cheaper that the new plans for me at least.

For me as well. My girlfriend has a dumbphone, and neither of us text much, so 700 minutes + $5/month for 250 texts + $10 dumb phone line is about perfect. If I want to change this, I have to transition to the share everything plan, which ends up being about $35/month more. Sure, I get unlimited talk and text, but I don't need that. I don't even need my unlimited data at this point, but I'm hanging onto the plan more than the data.
 
That Navy/Silver looks great.
Waiting a bit longer before I can get mine. Going red accent with black back and front. Darth X :P
I really wish they'd let you customize the Dev version though, hopefully it won't come back to bite me in the butt in 2 years or so.

Yeah, it's ridiculous that Dev Edition isn't just a checkbox at the end of the Moto Maker process. They already load a customized software build on each Moto X, because you can select your carrier/wallpaper/startup text, and believe me, they're not doing that by hand.

I feel like the whole Moto Maker thing had such promise and fell a little bit short on execution. HEY GUYS CUSTOMIZE YOUR PHONE!!!! ...if you're on AT&T, nobody else. OH AND WE'RE ALLOWING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKS!!! ...on certain carriers. BUT EVEN IF YOUR CARRIER DOESN'T ALLOW IT, YOU CAN BUY A DEV EDITION!!! ...only it's not customizable, it's 32gb/white or nothing.

Day 1 customization for all major carriers + dev editions would have given it some broader appeal.

Not to mention the half white/half black looks terrible. At least to me. "Don't pay attention to the Gray in username >_>"

Oh and the start up text, is that editable after purchase?
 
Placed my order yesterday, should be here by Friday. Black weave, black front, metallic blue accents. Loved this color combination since the first time I saw the Phantom Regiment perform (how many band nerds know what I'm talking about?).

If you don't need unlimited you can drop your line to 2gb and get the subsidy on your phone. For me 2gb wasn't enough so I paid full price. We have 550 minutes, 1000 and 250 sms the and two smartphones for $130 after discount and tax, 4gb shared plan would be like $150. So I save $480 on the plan and get to keep my unlimited data.

Yeah, even with the 2gb plan, I'd pay $18/month more than I pay now. $18 * 24 = $432, which is the full price of a smartphone.

It's no benefit for me, since the costs are a wash while I get nothing out of it that I'll actually use, and for that I give up unlimited data and lock myself into a 2 year contract.
