That's the problem. That's why I lose respect for Apple. Maybe it's because they probably bribe these companies billions of dollars to make them accept it. That's always how it is.
 
These are companies that are heavily connected to Apple's massive capitalization and either see opportunity for profit, or are trying not to get run over by a Cupertino juggernaut. They are not doing it because it's "cool".

Seriously, when I see something, like on a TV show, where they say "download the app now!" and I go to their site to get it, and the ONLY link is for the Apple store, I immediately fire off an e-mail to them. I say something about how they're ignoring the overwhelming majority of mobile device users, since Android is by far the most-used mobile OS on the planet. I ask how soon their Android version will be ready. :)
 
Won't use either one. Merchants can use Square.
I have enough trouble with a bank every now and then since I use Kubuntu. Why give a bank a chance to mess up any more if they can barely handle Windows and Mac?
 
I'm more upset with the herd mentality of the consumer. It's the consumer's fault that Apple is the default and nothing becomes cool until they do it.

Well, I have to disagree. After all, the consumer has spoken--that's you, me, and our bazillions of friends around the world who all use Android, making it the most-used mobile OS on the planet. Yet it's businesses that continually crank out their stupid Apple-centric things, like apps, and use their Apple-centric language, such as "you can do this on your iPad..." or "use your iPhone to...", without [apparently] realizing they're shooting themselves in the foot. Instead of pandering to the few [Apple users], they could be reaching the many [Android users]. The consumer isn't responsible for that. At least not that I can see.

However many of the developers for these companies do a lousy job with the android version and a far superior job on the ios version. That really annoys me.
 
Marketing. If Android only produced one phone, you would probably see ads about what you can do. Samsung pokes fun at Apple, have never seen an ad from any other mfg like HTC, LG, whoever carriers use.

They are more multinationals rather than totally US and making ads for each country sold in might be more than they wish to do. The flagship phone could be different in other places. Apple, selling only one phone, can easily tailor ads to fit wherever marketed.

LG and Samsung are also big in appliances and entertainment.
 
I haven't seen an ad poking fun at Apple for a while now. The last one I remember was when the S3 was released and all the people were standing in line outside the Apple store. Now that Samsung has established the Galaxy brand, I don't think they think it's necessary any more to compare themselves to a product that might have a stronger brand but lesser market share. That's not the business they're going after.

Ugh. You're right. Not funny. As not funny as the Apple "I'm a mac" series. They'd be better off paying the comedy network to constantly replay the "Eye-phone" episode of Futurama. :D

Thats why samsung should make less phones. I kmow they making billions and they are still making billions, but they are flooding the market.

Thats why I like the new direction of Motorola.3 phones. X, g, e. Each phone with a different mission.

Just look how well the moto x sold...

Ill bet that the new Moto x will also do as well, especially if they do another black friday deal.
 
It's the brand name recognition amongst the general public. You mention Apple or iPhone and most people, especially those who know little about mobile technology and they have at least heard of it and probably have an idea that it is a popular device. You get less people who would feel the same about Android or individual Android manufacturers. Companies understand the value of the Apple brand and no other mobile device manufacturer has such a strong brand.
 
I still see them playing the Samsung ad with the iPhone users sitting by the wall plugging their phones in to charge.

Anyway, I have no interest in paying for stuff with my phone. It's actually more of a hassle to pull my phone out of my pocket than it is a card, or even *gasp* cash.

I haven't used cash in many years--since the '80s--but paying by card is as easy as reaching for my keys. I've had a BofA mini debit card on my keychain for eons, and it's always right there. :D
 
Genericised trademarks, it's nothing new. My non-techy father emails me with his "ipad", even though it's made by Samsung and not Apple. And to be frank, he's happy and I don't particularly care.

"hoover" a machine for cleaning carpets.
"thermos" a flask for keeping liquids warm or cold.
"aspirin" a painkiller.
"google" the act of looking for something on the internet.
"ipod" a digital media player.
"iphone" a mobile telephone.
"sellotape", "biro", "durex", "walkman", "jeep", "muzak" .... and so on.

I'm often using cash to pay for things, so many places just don't take electronic forms of payment or they sometimes charge more for them, end of.

This is a very good point. There are a lot of terms, such as "Kleenex," that people [here in the US, anyway] use in a generic sense to refer to a product, not a brand.

You're in China, though, and sometimes quite rural China, so I can see why it could be very different from over here. Honestly, I can't even recall the last time I needed cash... :hmmmm: Nope, I don't remember.

I love how they say that ApplePay is inherently more secure than Wallet. Nevermind that Wallet can essentially be doubly-locked (phone PIN + Wallet PIN) or triple (encryption). Otherwise a decent look at it.
