Help Droid Maxx Bug Reports and Problems

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Unfortunately the option for letting Ok Google Now launch from the lock screen is no longer available, but I'll try it and see if this was the issue.

That's in Touchless controls and it will still work. That setting is for phones other than Motorola's that don't have Touchless controls.

I should explain this better. Google added the ability to say the phrase "OK Google" to open a search from any app with the screen on, and, optionally, with the lockscreen on. This setting is different from the touchless controls always listening feature that Motorola added to the Moto X and the 2013 Droids last year, which works on any screen, on the lockscreen, and even with the display powered off. You can continue to use Motorola touchless controls without turning on "OK Google" detection in the Google search app. The two do similar things, but are not otherwise dependent on each other.

Okay, I'll do some experimenting with it. Changing that setting in Google Now that you suggested did the trick though. Thanks!

I am having problems with the video recorder on my maxx.
The camera works fine, it says unable to start video capture?

If it's what I think it is, it's a known issue that can be fixed by opening the Google app, scroll to the bottom, tap the three button menu control bottom right, then settings, voice, and "OK Google" detection. Turn all of those settings off.

Video capture should now be fine.

I assume you are not root-ed. Correct?

You could try running in Safe Mode (disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them). If it stops then it was caused by an app that you added.

So I just got my phone a couple days ago through Verizon.
No problems with it whatsoever up until now. I don't understand but I can't play videos when my sound is on vibrate. Like I can watch them it just won't give me the sound. This problem happened today because I didn't have this problem until now. Not sure why, if anyone knows anything, let me know!

From home, go into settings / sounds / volumes, and check the "media" volume. You can keep the ringtone and notifications volumes down and on vibrate only but still set the media volume to listen to audio.

I've done that but its really random when it decides to work or not, like I can adjust right now and its working fine, but I noticed when I was on YouTube it wouldn't work or when I played games. I might bring my phone into Verizon and ask if its a normal issue, because this is just annoying. But thank you for your help!

I am having a problem with hearing text messages on my Maxx when driving. I get the verbal notification that someone has sent me a new text and "to listen say listen." When I do that, my phone starts making all kinds of beeps and scratches that won't stop until I go back to the main screen. I thought it was just my phone but tonight my wife's Maxx started doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

I haven't received a text while driving lately, but apparently the latest update to the Google search app has caused this issue with the Moto assist app. The only solution is to wait for an update from Motorola or go into settings / apps, find the Google search app, and uninstall updates until there is either another update to the search app or an update to the assist app.

So, you're not crazy, and there is nothing wrong with your phone that isn't wrong with anyone else's Maxx.

Google hasn't updated in ten days - you're just reinstalling the same update. In the play store, tap the Google app, tap the menu control top right, and uncheck "auto-update".

Motorola hasn't fixed it yet. When you see the update to the Motorola Assist app in the play store, then you can probably update the Google app.
I've just turned off the assist app for now. I can live without it temporarily.

I never use auto update and recommend to my customers that they never do.

I check once a day in My Apps for anything waiting to update and usually hit the Update All key.

Reason ... it is the only way to see what is being updated ... before it happens.

I agree, and that's what I do, too.

However, in this case, it's very important NOT to hit "Update all", because that will update the Google app, too. Until the assist app is updated, you'd have to update apps individually and avoid updating the Google app.

New issue, my camera does not want to work since the update this weekend. I just tried to use it for the first time since the update and I get a colored screen and then black and a message telling my to restart the camera.
Suggestions?

Well, I'd start first with restarting the phone, if you haven't tried that yet.

The camera app was updated from the Play Store. You can try going into the Play Store, find "Motorola Camera" and tap it (from "installed apps in the menu, say), tap "uninstall" - which will uninstall the app update - and then reinstall the update again. See if that helps.

If that doesn't fix it, if you have installed any apps lately that access the camera, they could be blocking the camera app when it tries to start. I'd try starting in safe mode (long press power until the power off menu comes up, then long-press power off until you get the message about starting safe mode) and then see if the camera works. If so, it's possible you have an app conflict with the camera.

If safe mode doesn't work, the last thing to try is a factory data reset, without restoring apps. If the camera still fails to work, it sounds like it's a hardware problem.
