^- and that, friends, reminds me of a story that happened when our former tax deductions were teenagers. The Darling Bride is snarky; I'm sarcastic and, occasionally, downright sardonic. That means our kids inherited a double-dose of it. After church one Sunday we went to Taco Bell. Thankfully we were the only people in line to order food, so we weren't holding anyone up.
I placed my order with the young guy at the register, and then our son stepped up and placed his order with water to drink. With a straight face, he told the cashier that he needed diet water, as he had triabetes. The cashier stared at him and I stepped in, saying (with a straight face) that it's like diabetes but with an extra chromosome. Meanwhile, the Darling Bride and daughter were behind us, trying to not burst into tears laughing.
The kid went and checked with the manager about their water! In fact, the manager was scrambling to determine if their water was safe for triabetics!
I finally looked around at the family and said out loud, "you know, we could go across the street to KFC, I know they have diet water..." to which the wife and daughter erupted in laughter and blew the whole thing. We had to explain to the kid at the register that we were just messing with him. We got our order and, as we sat down, noticed he still had a "deer in the headlights" expression on his face. I hope he didn't need therapy after that...
