i just downloaded my first ringtone using the verizon website... fooled around w/ it awhile... my husband figured out that you hold the app down a while in the text message and them it will be listed w/ the "phone ring tones" in the sound and display settings as a number/mp3. hope this helps, however i am sure you figured it out already!
