So is there any possibility whatsoever of connecting a external hard disk directly to my DHD (or indeed any smartphone)? or am I living in a fantasy world with the elves and pixies where all technology lives together in perfect harmonious cross compatable bliss?

So I noticed my device seems a bit less crisp when the battery is running low. Am I right in thinking that's normal? Its a pretty standard phenomenon with laptops so I'm assuming same goes here. Not major lag or anything just a bit less "sharp". Anyone else noticed this?
