Are you running Windows? If so, there are instructions on the forums that do not use Linux at all. I followed the instructions to the 'T' and got my LG Ally rooted in about 20 minutes.

If you're using a Mac, I won't be of much help :(

Hi! I'm trying to root my LG Ally and use tethering just like yourself. However, I am a total newbie to both Linux and cell phones in general. I have terminal installed but am getting a bunch of "permission denied" messages when trying to do the steps. Would you be willing to help me out (I would renumerate you as well!).
